Top Seven Big Little Lies Quotes on Goodreads

Posted by Hayley on February 24, 2017
Pop open the champagne! Big Little Lies is now a star-studded limited series on HBO.

Of course, before Reese Witherspoon stumbled in Madeline's sky-high heels, Shailene Woodley's Jane met her first Blonde Bob, and Nicole Kidman stepped into Celeste's seemingly perfect life, readers had already fallen for Liane Moriarty's dark and dishy take on schoolyard scandal.

Check out the best quotes from the book—as selected by your fellow Goodreads members! And catch Big Little Lies Sunday nights on HBO. (Watch the trailer here.)

Sorobai I don't get it... is that just me and my poor american culture knowledge!?

Passenger B. I'm not sure what's not to get. "Big little Lies" is the name of a novel by Liane Moriarty which was just now turned into a mini-series for HBO. These are a few of the most popular quotes. That's all.

message 3: by Mary (new)

Mary So excited for this series!! But when I saw the pictures I thought Nicole Kidman would be Madeleine and Reese would be Celeste. Idk that's just how I imagined.

message 4: by Laura (new)

Laura Saxon Never watched it.

message 5: by Liesl (new)

Liesl Although I liked the premiere and plan on continuing to watch, I miss the fun Australian flavor of the book, as well as the multiple instances of "Oh, calamity!"

message 6: by Chris (new)

Chris Evans Isn't "Oh, Calamity" originally a quote from Brandon Sanderson's Steelheart?

I have never understood the appeal of the book or the quotes they have listed. I feel ya

I was confused as well, as I had not heard of "Big Little Lies".

Me too! I expected someone very glamorous for Celeste.

Edit I haven't read the book but saw the second part of the series yesterday. (On HBO GO) I really like it. What do you think, should I read the book after the series is over?

If you finish the series w/out reading the book I wouldn't bother. You'll know all that happens and the fun of reading it will be lost

I totally agree with you. I honestly think that Nicole Kidman isn't pretty enough to be Celeste. And I don't mean that in a bad way. Celeste is described as being drop dead gorgeous. Take your breath away beautiful. I expected someone who looked like a model, or when I saw the cast Reese. I think she fits the description better.

message 13: by Jen (new)

Jen Ryland I love Reese as Madeline. Agree on Nicole. She's not really working for me as Celeste.

iReadFluff I have read the book (loved it) and I am watching the series (loving it). After watching 2 episodes I think Reese and Nicole are killing it. Reese plays that peppy, high strung, busy body so well. And Nicole may not be drop dead gorgeous (although I think she is beautiful) but I think she has the talent to pull off the scenes between her and Alexander (Perry) that will be difficult. That character needs some darkness and I think Nicole can pull it off. The casting I am having trouble with is Shailene. It's difficult for me to explain without giving away spoilers but I'm just not feeling it from her. I am really loving Reese and Adam (Ed) together. He is doing a great job.
Also, I don't understand why anyone who hasn't read the book and isn't watching the show would even come to this thread to comment???
