Betsy It's a good idea to encourage children to read, but I think it's also important to encourage adults to read. Too many rely only on television or other electronic media to communicate or learn about the world. That's one reason I think tablets, etc. are good; anything that makes it easier to read has my vote.

message 13: by Dena (new)

Dena Stewart Hi, I didn't know it was national reading day. I will go find a free e-book and do another read and review. Speaking of which, Amazon will not let me do it there (and I buy from them all the time), so I am going to post my review here. I hope that is ok. I did not read any other reviews before posting this. I read Michael Angel's Apocalypse with a Side of Grilled Spam.

This book had me on the first page...I couldn't put it down. It's fast-paced with quick action. Quite a bit of whit too. It was a quick, funny, hard to put down book that entertained me. I am a fan from now on. I love the characters. The book is so well written I could picture the action while I was reading and I love that quality in a book. I could imagine what the aliens look like the descriptions were so detailed. My only complaint....not long enough. I would definitely recommend this book to...well anyone and everyone.

message 14: by Norma (new)

Norma Ortiz I'll try to read a complete chapter of the book I'm currently reading (If my baby allows me to do it haha)

Melissa Ramirez Didn't know it was National Reading Day...!

I've been making progress on my reading challenge though - and planning which books to read next. Just marked five books as 'to reads' since last night; and I placed holds on three more, to read within the next few weeks!

Happy reading, everyone :)

message 17: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Martin I down loaded two more books to my e-reader. Now I have more to read on break!

message 18: by Lynn (new)

Lynn I always try to give books or Kindle gift certificates to my Grandchildren and Great Nephew for holidays. Birthdays are coming up so I've got to start saving for their gifts. I read approximately one book per day depending on the length. Happy National reading day.

message 19: by Salem (new)

Salem Lorot When I have my own children, I will read books to them. But for now, I am reading for myself. For parents, keep up the great work. I believe it was Einstein who said that if you want your children to be intelligent, read them fables and if you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fables. What we need are thinking adults, people who can think on their own. It starts with you, reading for your child. Teach yourself to think and to grow his or her imagination.

message 20: by Carol (new)

Carol Jensen Took my daughter to the library for a kid's drama program. Then before bedtime we had "Reading Club". A great night.
