Vote for Your Favorite Oprah Book Club Book

Posted by Danny on August 9, 2016
Last week Oprah announced her latest book club selection—Glennon Doyle Melton's Love Warrior—and it's already a runaway bestseller. Ever since its inception (Oprah's Book Club started in September of 1996 with Jacquelyn Mitchard's The Deep End of the Ocean), the book club has catapulted new books (and a few classics) to the top of the charts. But which one is the most beloved? If you're like our Goodreads' audience, you likely fell for Wally Lamb's She's Come Undone, Barbara Kingsolver's The Poisonwood Bible, and Jeffrey Eugenides' Middlesex. See the full list here and up vote your favorite today.

Vicky Connolly It's not pictured above, but my favorite was her last choice on her talk show, East of Eden, by John Steinbeck. From those pictured above I would say She's Come Undone, by Wally Lamb.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* I was actually let down by Middlesex, expected more out of it.
She's Come Undone was well written but exhausting.
Night is, of course, a classic all should read.
The Reader was daringly different and very good.
House of Sand and Fog was outstanding. Sobering but wonderful.

message 38: by Karen (new)

Karen Stark I liked them all, but House of Sand and Fog was my favorite of this group.

Amie She's Come Undone...still one of my favorite books.

message 41: by Cindy (new)

Cindy Why are you people so tweaked out about the Oprah book club being on your page. She reccommended some very good books, even if you don't think so. I don't think it will be off your page until this is over. If this is such a huge problem in your life I wish I had it. Get over yourselves!

Mackey LyndaIn wrote: "Is there any way to leave a "negative" star review? Because I'd give "The Road" about a minus 5."

I would offset your vote by giving it +10 stars if I could. It's one of my favorite books ever.

message 43: by Mackey (new)

Mackey I agree with the vote for East of Eden but I adore The Road...

message 44: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Brady The Pilot's Wife by Anita Shreve

Jack Pramitte Cindy wrote: "Why are you people so tweaked out about the Oprah book club being on your page ?"
I don't live in United States. I don't know who she is and I don't care. I'm interested by opinions by people I chose to be my friends here because I know their tastes.

message 46: by Diane (new)

Diane Hurd her choices are too deep. I don't like to suffer when I read.

message 47: by Lela (new)

Lela MollyRN wrote: "LyndaIn wrote: "Is there any way to leave a "negative" star review? Because I'd give "The Road" about a minus 5."

Add me to this list!

message 48: by Lela (new)

Lela I don't read books because they are on a list but I have read and loved many of those listed here.

message 49: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca This should be optional and not on the homepage. I didn't like any of Oprah's picks.

message 50: by LyndaIn (new)

LyndaIn Oregon Interesting. Different strokes, I guess. I've really enjoyed many of McCarthy's novels (the "Pretty Horses" trilogy was stunning), but I thought "The Road" was pointless, dull, and a horrible downer.

There are some amazingly good post-apocalyptic books out there; Walter Miller's "A Canticle for Leibowitz" and Robert McCammon's "Swan Song" come immediately to mind, along with "The Stand", "Alas, Babylon", "On the Beach" ... well, the list keeps growing. But "The Road" just didn't do it for me.

Obviously, a lot of people share your enthusiasm for "The Road". I'm just not one of them! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

(Hope the formatting in this is okay. I'm just getting started on GoodReads, and this is the first time I've tried to reply to someone else's comments.)
