Shelby Molly Weasley is hands down my favorite book mom! She's so protective of all her children (and Harry) and loves them so unconditionally! However unpopular of an opinion this is, I also love Narcissa Malfoy from Harry Potter. In the Deathly Hallows, she knew Harry protected Draco and she protected Harry in turn. While she is such a flawed, distant mother, she truly loves her son and knew that Harry needed protecting from the Death Eaters, as well!

Ashley *Hufflepuff Kitten* Natalie Prior was my favorite character in Divergent. This is a great list!

message 3: by Tristessa (new)

Tristessa Nanny Ogg, that's an ideal mother!

message 4: by Pearly (new)

Pearly YES!!!! Molly and Narcissa are truly amazing mothers!! I couldn't agree more... :)

message 5: by Hayley (new)

Hayley Molly Weasley and Natalie Prior definitely deserved to be on this list! They are both awesome! I also think that Sally Jackson (from all the very many books by Rick Riordan where Percy Jackson is a character) was a great mom to her son... She always believed in him, but was also very protective and sweet.

DaughterOfHades Where is Sally Jackson? That woman is a gem!

message 7: by Arathi (new)

Arathi Mohan The strict Marilla Cuthbert was the perfect adopted mom to the vivacious Anne. A quiet, strict lady with a heart of gold.

message 8: by Sarah (new)

Sarah I believe Mama, Do You Love Me? by Barbara Joose beautifully demonstrates a mother's love and tolerance for children and adults alike.

Mama, Do You Love Me? by Barbara Joosse

فؤاد A Man in Eternal Exile
By Nader Ebrahimi

"Motherhood: the Second Oldest Profession" by Erma Bombeck

Very funny:)

message 11: by Alizebeth (new)

Alizebeth Molly Weasly !!! Is my favorite book mom
And how can they miss Sally Jackson ??

message 12: by Desiree (new)

Desiree I don't get it...they have Mrs. Bennet on this list - who was always either belittling or trying to pawn off her daughters on any unmarried man that came their way - but they leave out Mrs. Dashwood, who was destitute but would never dream of encouraging her daughters to marry for anything less than love. I mean, I don't doubt Mrs. Bennet loved her girls in her own way, but she had an odd way of showing it.

Also, I am glad to see Marilla Cuthbert on this list. She never calls herself Anne's mother, but she is a wonderful role model and guardian to the young and spirited Anne.

I agree that Sally Jackson should be on this list. Ooh, and Esme Cullen!

message 13: by Sadie (new)

Sadie I absolutly go with Sally Jackson!

message 14: by Oda Renate (new)

Oda Renate I second Sally Jackson, also the mom in geek girl(tho she is a step mom) grandma mazur(she is the mom to step so she counts)

"

I'd take Mrs. Bennett over Mrs. Dashwood any day. The first was fighting hard to make sure her daughters wouldn't end up destitute and on the streets (that would have been their faith after their father's death if they didn't marry well) while Mrs. Dashwood had her head in the clouds and letting Elinor carry all the responsibility for her family. The only way that marrying for love worked back then was if the guy could support a family too.

Konstantina✨️ What about Narcissa Malfoy? She lied to Voldemort for her son! And America from The Heir?

Charity Yoder Konstantina wrote: "What about Narcissa Malfoy? She lied to Voldemort for her son! And America from The Heir?"

I don't really like America as a mother. I mean, I can see why she's a good mom. She tried to make Eadlyn see what she (Eadlyn) was: a spoiled brat. But just the fact that America made her go into the selection, even upon Maxon's request, makes me queasy.

message 24: by Cathern (new)

Cathern Sally jackson should definitely be added to this list, as well as hazel's mom from tfios!

I still have a few EB books. She was so great!

message 28: by Julie (new)

Julie Akeman I do so love Molly Weasly, she is everybody's mum, and is one to Harry as well, sweet and fiesty but so funny when you see her being super sweet on Ginny and the boys tend to get yelled at a lot, Ron the most, he's the youngest boy, she sooo loves all her children, remember when she had to deal with a boggart when cleaning up the old Black house she kept getting her children seen as dead, and when she actually loses one at the end of the books, OUCH.

Soumya Shelby wrote: "Molly Weasley is hands down my favorite book mom! She's so protective of all her children (and Harry) and loves them so unconditionally! However unpopular of an opinion this is, I also love Narciss..."

Narcissa is wonderful too, yes. And no fictional mother can beat Molly Weasley!! Undoubtedly!! Ha ha and I find it funny that Mrs Bennet made it to the list!

Lauri Saplad Mama Mae from The Kitchen House is one of my new favorites. She was so strong and had enough love from all her children and grandchildren -- even her adopted little Lavinia and all the white folk in her care... Wonderful character!

Emme Shelby wrote: "Molly Weasley is hands down my favorite book mom! She's so protective of all her children (and Harry) and loves them so unconditionally! However unpopular of an opinion this is, I also love Narciss..."
Totally agree

message 45: by Morris (new)

Morris This is a good list but Frank McCourt had two brothers not listed; Michael and Alfie.

message 46: by Anthony (new)

Anthony Stargaryen What's so great about Molly Weasley? She made a fool out of her youngest son in front of the whole school while simultaneously praising her daughter (with the howler). A good mom does love her children equally instead of having a favourite. True, she had every right to be angry at Ron at that moment, but couldn't that be handled in private? Comes book 3, and she tells Ginny and Hermione about the fun she had with a Love Potion! Love Potion's are the Wizarding World's equivalent of a rape drug! Comes book 4, and then she treats Hermione like shit because she's so stupid to believe Rita Skeeter immediately instead of sending an owl to her children to ask for the truth. Book 5, she insults Sirius IN HIS OWN HOUSE about how difficult it was for him to be there for Harry while he was innocently locked in Azkaban for twelve years (no wonder Ginny is so obsessed with Harry, she inherited that all from her mother), and in book 6 she tries to make Bill fall in love with Tonks because she doesn't like his love for Fleur. I'd say Molly is the worst mother ever!

message 48: by Hilary (new)

Moomin mamma should be number 1 in the poll of wisdom !

message 49: by Lucy Qhuay (new)

Lucy Qhuay Yes! Love Molly Weasley! Natalie Prior is great too. :)

message 50: by Marjolein (new)

Marjolein I had been thinking: "Do I have a favorite book mother? Is there even one that I like?" And then I saw the answer to my question: Moominmamma, of course! I can still remember how for years I wished to paint a garden on a wall and thenwalk into it like she did. I must reread that book, which one was it? Never mind, I can look at the pictures to find the right one.
