50 Million Reviews!
In late 2006, I wrote the first book review on Goodreads. It was a simple, two-paragraph review of A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson (5 stars – I recommend it) and I had no idea how popular a book recommendation and review site could become. Since then, you all have really made the review space your own. I may be biased, but I think Goodreads reviews are the best book reviews anywhere! Today, we have reviews that share personal experiences, reviews that include actor photos for dream casts of the book’s characters, quick-but-sharp summary reviews, and so many enthusiastic “you have got to read this!” reviews. There are reviews that push your thinking, and ones that create deep discussion.
In retrospect, it should be no surprise that readers – the consummate lovers of words – would also be eager to write. Many of our reviewers have developed their own distinctive style and won an audience that loves their creativity as much as their recommendations. The amazing diversity of reactions and approaches is what makes Goodreads reviews so unique and enjoyable. And now, just over nine years later, we’ve reached a new milestone: 50 million reviews!
On behalf of the Goodreads team, I wanted to give a huge thank you to all of you who've written such amazing reviews over the years. I hope you've found it as rewarding as I do to look back at your reviews, months or even years later, and re-live each reading experience. We're also proud of the fact that we're helping readers all over the world build an online record of the books they've read and what they think of them. And I know I speak for book lovers everywhere when I say that your reviews help so many of us discover our next favorite book.

Thank you for being here for us avid readers! :-)

I think Katrina's review of "50 Shades..." is a classic.

My most faved review was for a dreadful one star book so I guess lots of us disliked it. And that Bill Bryson book was fabulous!
Congrats and thanks from readers around the world who in Goodreads find like minded, kindred spirits who all share that very simple pleasure of reading.

Congrats on the milestone.

you told me this one had the most attentionMarley
but my favorite are Maybe Someday
A Thousand Boy Kisses
The Song of David
Third Debt
Fourth Debt

This is a cool feature.

A series of reviews that have really moved me are those by Vessey. Few Goodreaders add such genuine personality (and pain and probing questions) to theirs.

I remember it was a review that I had a lot of fun writing and I loved the book!

It's great to have a place to review books that is not immediately a selling shelf. We can just share opinions. I've met so many readers through Goodreads.

Here is that fantastic, amazing review:

If I hadn't found Jason Werbeloff's work, I wouldn't be in that 1% as his Obsidian Worlds was my most looked at.
Goodreads was a wonderful idea. Thank you so much! <3

My most liked review being Don't... as it is the first of what I found to be a brilliant series and still the anticipation of one more to come and read to complete the series.
Thanks to those of you who take the time to read our reviews and like them and leave comments too. The interaction is great.

I think a lot of one-star and two-star books don't get finished, much less reviewed. I know that I won't rate a book if I don't make it past the 2nd chapter or so.

I don't always know how my reviews will be received; sometimes I don't like a book and am not afraid to say so (even if it is a number 1 bestseller).
I have over two hundred books on my shelf to read so there will be a lot more reviews coming!!!!

I can't even begin to describe how much I appreciate the Goodreads community. It has helped my love of literature grow to such a degree that it's even come into play with my college career path.

True -- I mark them as "abandoned" but try to be fair, and don't often rate them if I haven't finished them (unless they're truly Just That Awful - sometimes they just aren't my taste). I often wish there was a rating designation for 0 stars - too terrible to rate!
