15 Guaranteed Ways to Impress a Book Lover

Last week we asked on Facebook and Twitter: What's a guaranteed way to impress a book lover? Your top answers are below! If your friends, family, or "secret" admirers need a nudge in the right direction (i.e. towards the bookstore), show them this.
1. "Give a book in lieu of a bouquet of flowers—or leave a sweet note in the book I'm reading!" (@PierceCoLibrary)
2. "Flash an unexpired library card." (@kiLaV0Lts)
3. "Be able to hold an interesting conversation about a book or author, not just 'I like it' or 'I don't like it.' Share your opinions and thoughts." (Jodi Karshbaum)
4. "Casually make a reference to a book mid-sentence." (@HailtoHuffius)
5. "Be gentle with your books. Don't toss them around or bend the covers!" (Liz Burns)
6. "Read my favorite book so I'll have someone new to discuss it with." (@Rabidreader1970)
7. "Tell me I remind you of a specific character from a book." (Michelle McEwen)
8. "LISTEN. Let me talk about the characters and the situations I'm reading about." (@Aadila03)
9. "Don't lie about having read a book you didn't read." (@CidStoll)
10. "Always have a book in hand!" (Joseph Maldonado)
11. "Recommend books based on my interests." (@acaDemyx_)
12. "Be honest and unapologetic about the kinds of books you like." (@AwflyWeeEli)
13. "Buy a recently released book written by my favorite author. Bonus points if it's signed!" (Gayle Ryan)
14. "Plan a book shopping adventure day with stops at multiple bookstores, followed by a cup of tea and some book talk." (Gigi De Young)
15. "Just say you're a reader—I'll take it from there!" (Pamela Dunn)
What would impress you? Tell us in the comments!

If I'm crying over a character, Don't say "Don't upset yourself, they're just fictional." Just make me tea and leave me alone to grieve!
I love the book reference one and tell me im like one of book charaters one....seriously...dream xime true...
Truth, I would be very impressed if a guy read one of my favorite books just so he could talk to me and hear my opinions on it.
Take me on a trip to visit the most interesting LIBRARIES in the region/country. The older the more romantic and interesting they are. I LOVE LIBRARIES. The smell and atmosphere get me all tingly!

I really like the list. 3.4.5.6.10.and 15 are my favorites.
Plan and go on a literary trip with me! To an author's grave, home(s), favorite writing spots or muses, setting of my favorite book, museums, etc. Geeking out together is so much fun!
Jessica wrote: "Understanding that sometimes I don't want to go out anywhere, I just want to stay in and read :)"YES!!!
Betsy wrote: "#7. What if you don't like the character you remind them of?"Then you know to get rid of them! Roflmbo!!
"Just say you're a reader—I'll take it from there!" (Pamela Dunn)Yes!!!! That is me in every way, as long as you read I can totally find something that we can talk about! >.<
Give me a copy of your favorite book. Share with me what it means to you and how it affected you. The fact that you would want me to experience the same, to let me in to your world like that, would be touching.
Instead of trying to flirt by buying me a drink in a bar, buy me that book I'm staring at for the last 10 minutes in the bookshop. (You'll be a lot more succesful)
Why do all of those items sound so fake.Want to impress me? Read. Read what you like. Enjoy doing so.
Definitely number #8! I am always interested in talking about a book while I am reading it, even more so then after. I don't care if you read it or not, just "Listen" :)
When I am reading don't interrupt me unless it is vitally important!!.Don't you hate it when you are reading a fantastic book, really engrossed and then someone disturbs you.

The worst thing someone can do is intrupt me and its always something dumb like what are gou doing
The picture of Wishbone is what drew me in. That show made so many great classic novels so cool and interesting to my son when he was young. I loved it too! Anything that can spark the love for books and reading is a beautiful thing.
Joanne wrote: "The picture of Wishbone is what drew me in. That show made so many great classic novels so cool and interesting to my son when he was young. I loved it too! Anything that can spark the love for boo..."I second that, I've loved Wishbone since forever. He was so awesome.
-Make me a reading den.-Buy me books (duh)
-Reccomend me books you know I'll love
-Never EVER badmouth a character I love
-Go book shopping!!!!!
respecting that sometimes reading my favourites again (evenif its the hundredth time) makes me reallyyy happyy. it rejuvenates me :)
Be aware of what you're talking about regarding literature. There is nothing worse to me than someone claiming to have read a certain book, but then get the plot/story/characters wrong. Oh, and please make sure your grammar is up to snuff. :)

I've gone on a couple used book crawls. Hit at least five shops, buy at least one in each, make a couple stops for beverages (we did beers), head home, and then read until bedtime. Perfect day, but next time I'd like to that with someone special, if you get me.

Chocolate could be involved!

all the above plus when I'm bawling my eyes out over a character don't look at me as though I lost my marbles, hug me an tell me that there's still a few pages left and the character may get to live after all.Don't freak out when I start talking about fictional characters as though they're real. they are real to me and they're my only friends, I spend half my day inside their head, they are as close to me as no one could ever get.
Jamie wrote: "Truth, I would be very impressed if a guy read one of my favorite books just so he could talk to me and hear my opinions on it."Me too! I would definitely swoon
