message 3: by Sydney (new)

Sydney Griffin This will always and forever be my favorite part ❤️❤️❤️❤️

“When I asked my da how ye knew which was the right woman, he told me when the time came, I’d have no doubt. And I didn’t. When I woke in the dark under that tree on the road to Leoch, with you sitting on my chest, cursing me for bleeding to death, I said to myself, ‘Jamie Fraser, for all ye canna see what she looks like, and for all she weighs as much as a good draft horse, this is the woman.'”

I started toward him, and he backed away, talking rapidly.

“I said to myself, ‘She’s mended ye twice in as many hours, me lad; life… amongst the MacKenzies being what it is, it might be as well to wed a woman as can stanch a wound and set broken bones.’ And I said to myself, ‘Jamie, lad, if her touch feels so bonny on your collarbone, imagine what it might feel like lower down…”

He dodged around a chair.

“Of course, I thought it might ha’ just been the effects of spending four months in a monastery, without benefit of female companionship, but then that ride through the dark together”–he paused to sigh theatrically, neatly evading my grab at his sleeve–“with that lovely broad arse wedged between my thighs”–he ducked a blow aimed at his left ear and sidestepped, getting a low table between us–“and that rock-solid head thumping me in the chest”–a small metal ornament bounced off his own head and went clanging to the floor–“I said to myself…” He was laughing so hard at this point that he had to gasp for breath between phrases. “Jamie…I said…for all she’s a Sassenach bitch…with a tongue like an adder’s …with a bum like that…what does it matter if she’s a f-face like a sh-sh-eep?”

I tripped him neatly and landed on his stomach with both knees as he hit the floor with a crash that shook the house.

“You mean to tell me that you married me out of love?” I demanded.

He raised his eyebrows, struggling to draw in breath. “Have I not…just been…saying so?”

Second, *I can hear the gasps already* I've never seen the show or read the books! *runs and hides under table for the shame I feel & the beating I might be subjected to for admitting that*

Third: Those quotes and this quote lover, hopeful romantic just DIED reading those and now thinks "me must" look into the series and keep a closer eye on the male specimen of Gorgeousness and enjoy the show.

Fourth: Thank you for another great post and another new bit of awesomenes to check out! :)

message 13: by Stacy (new)

Stacy McErlean Oh wow, there are so many great lines that Diana Gabaldon writes in the book but to pick from the above...
I love, love #5 (Chapter 27, The Last Reason) because when I watch the show now, I can really see Jamie in that "wanting feeling" every time he looks at Claire. Might sound silly, but just the way he looks at her, it makes me giggle LOL I really hope they use that line in the upcoming episodes, too!

message 36: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Buchanan of these I love the 4th one the best and it goes through my mind every know and then for these 20 years. So much of what she writes stays with you maybe not the exact words because there are about a million words between all her books but the way she describes things is magic

message 37: by Nickie (last edited Mar 26, 2015 01:11PM) (new)

Nickie Like so many, I adore these books. What Sydney posted was spot on one of my favorites. And yes, Jamie is a legend. What he says is legendary (Thank you DG) and makes my heart just sing. Claire is not as openly quotable, however, which has always surprised me. She rarely lets Jamie know how much she cares for him only and most assuredly, in her actions. But her quiet thoughts are quite beautiful and this is my favorite, from OUTLANDER:

(pg 588) " There was a feeling, not sudden, but complete, as though I had been given a small object to hold unseen in my hands. Precious as opal, smooth as jade, weighty as a river stone, more fragile than a bird's egg. Infinitely still, live as the root of Creation. Not a gift, but a trust. Fiercely to cherish, softly to guard. the words spoke themselves and disappeared into the groined shadows of the roof.

I genuflected to the Presence then, and left the chapel, never doubting, in the eternity of the moment when time stops, that I had an answer, but having no idea what that answer was. I knew only that what I held was a human soul; my own or another's, I could not tell."

message 38: by Lynne (new)

message 41: by Erika (new)

Erika This is my latest favorite:

“But I talk to you as I talk to my own soul,” he said, turning me to face him. He reached up and cupped my cheek, fingers light on my temple.
“And, Sassenach,” he whispered, “your face is my heart.”
