U.K. Members Can Now Add Their Amazon Book Purchases to Goodreads!

Posted by Suzanne on May 12, 2014
Good news for our U.K. members! Over the next few weeks, Goodreads will be rolling out the Add Your Amazon Books feature in the U.K.. Now our British members will be able to add books purchased on Amazon – both print and Kindle books – to their Goodreads shelves!

We introduced our new Add Your Amazon Books feature for members in the U.S., Canada and Australia last month to rave reviews!

This new feature will roll out gradually to all of our U.K. members in the coming weeks, but, if you are in the U.K., you can also get early access by clicking this link:

Add Your Amazon Books

How do you know if you have the feature? Take a look at the Tools list on the left hand side of the My Books page. You’ll see the Add Amazon Book Purchases link, as well as a small announcement at the top of the page. (See screenshot below.) See it? Great! In just two simple steps, you can add your Amazon books!:

1. Click on either link.
2. Sign into your Amazon account.

From there, you’ll then see your Amazon book purchases. You can go through and rate each book and select the appropriate shelf for it. We give you full control over which books to add so you can avoid adding any books bought as gifts. Any book not rated or added to a shelf will not be added to Goodreads.

How many books did you end up adding? Were there any books that you’d forgotten about? Let us know in the comments!

Ceri I don't have a shelf for unread kindle freebies yet and I dread to think of how many I could add to it if I used the new Add your Amazon Books feature!

message 2: by Sparrowlicious (new)

Sparrowlicious Well, that's nice for UK people without an unique name.

message 3: by Tiuri (new)

Tiuri Why is this only available to UK members? I don't live in the UK, but I've ordered books from amazon.co.uk. I've even ordered books from amazon.com. Would be nice if this feature was available to everyone, no matter where they happen to live.

Hey Carrie! What isn't working for you? What happens when you click on this link?

Good news: if you purchase books from amazon.co.uk, then you can use this feature! (And you can use it if you've ordered from amazon.com too, so you're definitely in luck). Try clicking the big link in the post, and let us know what you think.

message 5: by Tiuri (new)

Tiuri Hi thanks, for replying. Unfortunately, it does not work. When I click either of those links, I get redirected to the main page: www.goodreads.com.
The option is not showing up under tools either.

Hm, interesting! Are you logged into a different Amazon account from your co.uk account right now? Can you try completely logging out of your Amazon account and clicking the blog post link again?

message 7: by Tiuri (new)

Tiuri I opened both amazon.com and amazon.co.uk and logged out on both websites. When I click the link it still redirects me to the main goodreads.com page.

message 8: by Aditi (new)

Aditi When will it be for Amazon India? Waiting eagerly!!

Same for me..

message 10: by Aimee (new)

Aimee Hyndman I don't have the "add amazon books" option either yet and I shop at amazon.co.uk :/

Me neither. What's going on?

message 12: by Lisa (last edited May 13, 2014 01:16AM) (new)

Lisa The 'Tools' link is greyed out for me so I can't click on it...and I don't see the "add amazon books" link either...

message 13: by Keighley (new)

Keighley Not working for me either! Links take me back to GR home page, and its not lsted in my tools section!

message 14: by Gemma (new)

Gemma Ok, what you need to do is go to your profile and then I think it may be Apps. (its the link where you can link your facebook and twitter account. Scroll down and you should see a box that says link your amazon account or something. Click that and you have to log in with your amazon details. Then its Bob's your uncle.

message 15: by Gemma (new)

Gemma Never mind. Still not working for me, even though I did link my account

message 16: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Hi Gemma, Thanks for trying to help. Unfortunately, this hasn't worked. I linked my Amazon account (Wasn't aware of this feature) and I even logged off and back on again. I also logged off and used the 'log in with Amazon' option to see if this would work but it hasn't....

Yeah, after I saw this I did the same and there is nothing there for me either. I think they might not have switched on the feature just yet :eye roll:

Yeah I think you're right. I'm just going to keep checking for a few days and see what happens.

same x

message 20: by Kribu (new)

Kribu Same problem - I just get directed back to the goodreads.com main/feed page. I've got GR linked to my Amazon.com account and the import feature still worked when I last did an import (a couple of days ago).

Today none of the above-mentioned options work.

In general though I appreciate the UK addition - while all my Kindle books are bought through Amazon.com, I do have some paper books bought through Amazon UK, so it'll be nice to be able to add them in this way too once it works!

message 21: by Kittykorn (new)

Kittykorn Not working for me either :(

message 22: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Brand Yep, I'm in the UK and this isn't working for me either. The link just redirects me back to the GR homepage.

message 23: by Emily, Goodreads employee (new)

Emily Thanks for letting us know! I'll check on what's happening with the redirect and get back to you all. I'm sorry it isn't quite working for you yet.

Cherryonion Carrie wrote: "There is no link on the side to say amazon books, it's the same as before the update."

I don't have the link on the side either.

message 25: by Becky (new)

Becky I clicked on the link that Emily provided and it worked. Only problem I have now is that it says this, now that my account is linked

" Only the books you rate or shelve below will be added to your Goodreads profile. Any books you add will be publicly visible on Goodreads.

You currently do not have any Amazon book purchases to import.

Only books purchased on amazon.com, .ca, and .au sites may be viewed at this time.
If you purchased books from a different Amazon site, please try again soon!"

I've bought books on Amazon though. They are kindle editions. I think I make my purchases through amazon.co.uk, so that may be the problem.

I'm from the UK.

message 26: by Carol (new)

Carol I'm having this same problem, I've linked my account ( I'm in Ireland but use co.uk for all my kindle purchases) but I'm being told that "Only books purchased on amazon.com, .ca, and .au may be viewed at this time."

message 27: by Emily, Goodreads employee (new)

Emily Hey all! Can you try to click the big link in the blog post again to see if you're able to access the book import page? We made a small change so that this should work.

Cherryonion wrote: "Carrie wrote: "There is no link on the side to say amazon books, it's the same as before the update."

While the link on the side won't show up for everyone right away, you should be able to go to this link directly to start using the feature:

http://www.goodreads.com/amazon_purch...

Becky wrote: "I clicked on the link that Emily provided and it worked. Only problem I have now is that it says this, now that my account is linked

Let me check on this for you! It should be working for co.uk.

message 28: by Carol (new)

Carol Fantastic, that link has down it for me!

message 29: by Gemma (new)

Gemma Emily, it now works! Woo hoo!

Marte - Thunderella It works for me too! :)

message 31: by Aimee (new)

Aimee Hyndman Yay works for me :)

Marte - Thunderella Just through the link though. Can't see it on my book page yet...

message 33: by Emily, Goodreads employee (new)

Emily Yay!! So excited to hear that it's working. Let us know what you think!

Marte - Thunderella Is it possible to change between title list view and cover list view? It takes forever to load..

message 35: by Carol (new)

Carol I like it but it's going to take me forever to go through all my knidle freebies. *sigh* The things I do for love!

Emily Becky wrote: "I clicked on the link that Emily provided and it worked. Only problem I have now is that it says this, now that my account is linked

Hey Becky! Can you try this again and see if it's working for you?

Marte wrote: "Is it possible to change between title list view and cover list view? It takes forever to load.."

It's not possible to switch between list and cover view, but that's a great suggestion! I'll pass that along to our development team.

message 37: by Becky (new)

Becky Yeah, it's working great for me now. Thank you!

Marte - Thunderella The covers don't have to be so big either. If they were smaller, they would load quicker (?) and more covers can fit on a page giving me a better overview.

message 39: by Becky (new)

Becky The only problem I have now is that once I've closed off the page with all the amazon purchases, there is no link to get back to it, unless I click on the one on this thread.

Marte - Thunderella Becky wrote: "The only problem I have now is that once I've closed off the page with all the amazon purchases, there is no link to get back to it, unless I click on the one on this thread."

Same here...

I'm getting almost the same error message:
You currently do not have any Amazon book purchases to import.

Only books purchased on amazon.com, .ca, .co.uk, and .au sites may be viewed at this time.
If you purchased books from a different Amazon site, please try again soon!

I bought at least one book on amazon.couk last year, but it's not showing up. (But I'm getting the import option, so that's progress)

I logged out of my amazon account and then followed the link in the message above, works perfectly.
I think this is it

message 43: by Emy (last edited May 13, 2014 10:13AM) (new)

Emy I'm in and adding fine, but one option that I would appreciate would be to be able to add multiple items to shelves in one go, or to set a different default import shelf (e.g Kindle books). At the moment I'm using the workaround of add all to ToRead and then moving them in bulk to where they should be (for me)...

message 44: by Chava (new)

Chava also works for Australian Amazon users. I've added mine a few days ago. Great new feature!

message 45: by Kat (new)

Kat Takes me yo us site nit uk?

message 46: by Jo (new)

Jo Weston The link works, but it doesn't then show me what I have already added to my shelves. Just shows everything as "want to read" when most of these are already in my shelves. I want to be able to spot ones I have bought, but not added yet. How do we do that?

message 47: by Elaine (new)

Elaine Carrie wrote: "It won't work for me ..."

Me neither :(

message 48: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Yeah mine works now! Tt did show a couple that were already on my shelf so not sure what that is about but only a couple so I'm happy with this. Thanks!!

♡ Jeri's Book Attic ♡ Jeri the Romance Bibiliophile ♡ When will this feature be implemented for Germany ?

message 50: by Nelo (new)
