Now It's Even Easier to Show Off Your Love of Books on Facebook

Posted by Brian Rosenblat on March 13, 2013
Good news today for our members who love to share their Goodreads reading activity on Facebook!

Facebook has made improvements to timeline to organize and showcase activity from apps with a new feature called sections. Goodreads is among the apps that can share into your new sections on timeline and the About page. This is being rolled out on Facebook over the next few weeks so don't worry if you don't see it on your timeline yet—it's coming.

The Goodreads app for Facebook is already the number one book—related app on Facebook—more than 2.5 million of us are using the app. And in the last four weeks alone, we shared more than 20 million books on Facebook. That's a whole lot of book love!

Of course, we've made sure to give our members complete control of what you share via the Goodreads app on Facebook. You can edit your settings at any time.

Every day, the Goodreads team wakes up, comes into the office, and focuses on one mission: to help people find and share books they love. The Goodreads app on Facebook is another great way for you and your friends to connect over a shared passion for books.

If you haven't signed up for our app on Facebook and would like to try it out, please go to your Account page on Goodreads (go to the top right corner of Goodreads, click on the drop-down arrow, and click on "edit profile"), click on the Apps tab, and follow the instructions under Facebook.

As Facebook rolls the new timeline out to a broader audience, we'll follow up with an additional post to give more details.

Books are better when shared with friends. Happy sharing!

Chantélle Cridland My app just shows blank. :-S I hope they fix this soon!

message 12: by Connie (new)

Connie Will this be sort of like the "boxes" tab they originally had? I loved having goodreads as a box on my profile.

message 13: by Rosa (new)

Rosa sounds great, I can't wait :)

message 14: by Kelly (new)

Kelly I love being able to share the books I read on FB, but I haven't noticed the same ability on Google +. Is that in the works, or am I blind?

message 15: by Arjaye (new)

Arjaye Mine had 10books under read now it's blank and says no acitvity to show. :-(

Apostol Apostolov Although I have used Goodreads Facebook integration for a long time, read a lot of books, sent progress, etc. I don't get the Goodreads collection on my New Timeline.

Also, it would make much more sense if Goodreads contributed to the standard Books collection as well as its own Goodreads collection.

I would also love to be able to have my reading progress in my Goodreads collection - every book I am currently reading with its percentage of completion or current page in its item description.

Dave Brown I've had no updates to my Goodreads on FB since the date of this post. Coinky dink?...I think not.

I second allll of this! I get that new things always have bugs, but can GR fix this?

message 19: by Judyta (new)

Judyta Szaciłło I have noted the changed view of the GR app, and I am slightly worried. As previously, FB doesn't obtain all the data and the number of books read is a couple of hundred smaller than on GR. The GR tab on FB shows about 70 book covers of not a very representative choice, and they are fixed (no title rotation, no option for manual changes apart from simple deleting). Any chance that GR can have some impact on these issues?

I have tried hiding activities on timeline and re-installing the app; nothing works. If it's going to stay that way, I am certainly not going to use the app anymore. I certainly don't feel the need to show up only and entirely with my work-related reading on manuscript filiations or political associations of the early medieval Irish Church. A few added children stories don't make it more representative. The new shape of the app is very discouraging, I'm afraid!

Sheik I like books , but not a great reader. I just wanted to make the ebst utilization of books that are with every individual, so launched a site (www.IndiaChapters.com). Sell, buy are normal options, but most interesting options I included is to exchange books and to donate to the needy people. Please visit IndiaChapters

Judyta Szaciłło I finally pulled the data from Goodreads to the FB Books application, and switched off Goodreads section which was of no use. It's much better this way.

I also did that. Btw, did you notice that when you finish reading a book it's added to the "Read" section but not taken off the "To read" section?

message 24: by Ruchika (new)

Ruchika Sounds great..I love to follow this..English books online,
must add this book in the list.

Judyta Szaciłło Mohammed wrote: "Btw, did you notice that when you finish reading a book it's added to the "Read" section but not taken off the "To read" section?"

I did not, because I haven't yet read anything of the recently added 'to-read' books, and only the recently added have been pulled from GR to my FB profile. So on GR I have over 200 books on my to-read shelf, but only about 20 of those on FB :-)

I'm not too bothered by it, though. The 'to-read' shelf is nothing to show off with, it's there to support my memory so I don't forget about anything that I found interesting enough to put there.

message 26: by Robin (new)

Robin I would like to post my My Year in Books! What I Read in 2013 to Facebook, but the header isn't pulling, just the link. Example my friend's post shows, the following. Mine does not. Would like to make mine show like the entry below.

"My Year in Books! What I Read in 2013
www.goodreads.com
xxx read 71 books in 2013. See the full list on Goodreads, the world's largest site for readers and book recommendations!

Maximiliano In my case, the app DOESN'T appear as shown above. Whenever I go to https://www.facebook.com/me/app_good_..., it says "no activity to show" (no hay actividad para mostrar). Everything is linked correctly, is there something I am doing in the wrong way? It's supposed to appear BELOW "Movies" (películas) but when I go to my profile I cannot see the app. I took this screencap so you can see what I'm talking about:

However, for example, when I finish reading a book or when I add what I'm currently reading, it appears on my recent activity, but that's all. I get notifications that say things like "Goodreads has added something in the past to your timeline." but where is the app? It's like hidden. Help me, please :/

edit: I just realised this post is from last year, I apologise for bumping this thread. I'm new, lol.
