Site Maintenance and Downtime Tonight, Starting around 6 pm PT
We have scheduled significant upgrades to occur between 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM PDT, and there will be some outages during this time. Beginning at 5 PM PDT, the site will be down intermittently and could possibly be down for an extended period of time. We're hoping the outage will be less than 30 minutes, but it could be as long as a few hours, depending on how things go.
We will be on hand working to resolve any issues that arise after we re-enable the site, but please be aware that further outages may occur as we release updates to fix unanticipated problems. After the site is back, please let us know if you encounter any problems using the site.
During this process, we will be posting status updates on Twitter and remaining as responsive as possible.
The updates will pave the way for some significant performance improvements which have become a little overdue. So there may be a little rough patch at first, but it should lead to serious improvements in your Goodreads experience. Thanks for your patience!

I will say this, the site keeps coming and going, and I am not getting notifications for some of my groups

Email notifications had to be put on hold earlier today for these upgrades. Hopefully we can start them back up tonight or early tomorrow. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Email notifications have been out for a few days... I haven't had any for the last few days.
It is fine for me, just how long do you think it will take, not to rush you guys because you are doing a great job with the site and all that it provides. I was just curious

The notifications aren't working for me at all now, I'm not talking about email notifications. I'm on the goodreads home and there are new posts, but I'm not getting any notifications.

Notifications are not working! I can not Edit or delete anything! The posts with pictures are now to big to even fit in my screen! And every time I comment then it takes me back to the home page!

When you say you can't edit anything, do you mean a review?

Just a heads up the link you click in a thread (titled 'newest') to get to the newest comments isn't working for some people.
I'm not getting any notifications.... if says that I have new notifications, but when I click on it, it doesn't show them, it only shows the old ones. I'm just worried that it'll do the same with my messages :(

Edit: I have discovered that I am getting the notifications it is just the time is up dating instead of both the time and bringing it to the top of the list

Wow! Newbie here. I've been trying to fund my self promo author program ad for two days and I kept getting that the page was going no where. Same thing when I asked for Help. Finally noticed this blog. Yay! Updates, it's not me. Hopefully everything including self promo will be running better by next week?

I noticed that if you put in all three: year, month, and date, then save it, the date will actually be updated even if the page doesn't show it ... just in case you were dying to set the date on your books :)
Alex, that's right, we've been doing a lot of serious maintenance. But we're coming out of it now. There are some bugs that slipped through the cracks and we're tracking them down. If you're still having problems, let me know.
Thanks, Daniel! I see it working now if I enter Year, Month, and Date. It's ok, when I reload the page, even tho it doesn't update the original page immediately.
One of my sticky shelves has completely disappeared. I'm not sure where those books went... OH YUCK! They're all on my READ shelf now. This is not good. That's lots of books. :( help???

the shelf was called "have-to-read". It was my to read for books I literally have in my possession either physically or electronically as opposed to just a stumbled upon one day to read title. I feel like the carpet has just been ripped from under me. :(

Kevin, those errors are related to the performance of our site. We did some major maintenance last night and we're still catching up a bit. In the long run, everything should be faster and more reliable, but its been a little painful in the transition.Margaret, that's a big loss. I'll continue to look into it, hopefully I'll find out why, but there were a lot of moving pieces during our maintenance, so I can't make any promises.

*sigh* I wish I had realized I needed to backup before your update, but I've never had any issues with my shelves before. This is very much not cool. I practically live on goodreads.
For the most part, our developers don't work weekends. And they had their hands pretty full on Friday!
So when everything is fixed will they send us all the notifications (emails) we were supposed to receive? I'm in way too many groups to have to go through each individual group to see what I missed! Thanks so much!

Trust me, when my emails came online i had 98 emails.
I know I'm going to get slammed! I'm in like 30 groups and following all the discussions I'm interested in individually! Lol That's a lot of emails!
