Goodreads API

Posted by Otis Chandler on July 24, 2007
Announcing the launch of the Goodreads API! The Goodreads API so far offers two features:

  • The ability to get a list of any members books from any shelf
  • The ability to link to a book by isbn/title

The Goodreads API is a work in progress. If you have something you would like to build that isn't supported, please contact us — chances are good we will add what you need.

Robert-Reinder Nederhoed For starters: your blog and your API info is hard to find from the website. I needed Google to find this entry.

Secondly, the link to your API isn't working anymore, should be: http://www.goodreads.com/api/

Compliments on Goodreads! I like it. My interest is in using it to share our company "bookshelves". So, we're still evaluating. I created a test group to be used for all my colleagues (100+).

Your API could be of added value, we would use goodreads.com for the book administration and reviews, and could provide a simple search on our intranet. So a "search books within group" API call would be ideal.

Greetings, Robert-Reinder

Ben I'm trying the various sort parameters, but none seem to work.

Ben cool, the parameters seem to work now. Any change you could also add book image as a separate entity in the shelf feed??

Marc Maxmeister I think (a) what people are reading and (b) what they have read says a lot about our kind of user at GlobalGiving. I'll take a look and see if we could give people to option of sharing a miniature version of their goodreads on their giving profiles. It might also give us ideas on which projects to recommend them, a la amazon.
