Write-In Candidates will become Official Goodreads Choice Nominees!

More than 100,000 votes have been cast! Have you voted yet?

Goodreads is excited to announce that on Monday, December 20, the top five write-in candidates in 23 Goodreads Choice Awards categories will become Official Nominees for 2010!

We believe the write-in vote option is an essential part of these awards. Goodreads members have diverse tastes, and we want to honor that! We knew that 15 nominees per category was a good start, but it could never cover all the amazing books published this year. Adding the top five write-in candidates in each category as Official Nominees will deepen the pool of talent represented by the Goodreads Choice Awards and further represent the unique “reader’s choice” spirit behind this celebration of books. The new nominees will be added to the polls for the final ten days of voting.

The write-in vote option has been getting lots of love! To give you an idea, as of December 13, readers have placed write-in votes for more than 700 books in the Favorite Book of 2010 category, 300 books in the Fiction category, 200 books in the Nonfiction category, and hundreds more in the other categories.

We expect many races will come down to the wire when the polls close on December 31, so don't wait to support your favorite books and authors! To help spread the word, you can add this handy widget to your blog or website. You can also click "link to this poll on your website" at the bottom of any award category to access a category-specific widget. Don't let your favorite book come in second!

Winners will be announced in the January Goodreads newsletter.

Terry (Ter05 TwiMoms/ MundieMoms) Why does it let me vote for Clockwork Angel for favorite book but when I write it in on the vote for Fiction it tells me it was not published in 2010?

Jessica Thanks for the heads up, Terry. (The write-in field looks at "original publication date," and Clockwork Angel's date was incorrectly set to 2009). I just fixed it, so you should be able to write it in now.
