October's Most Anticipated Romances

Some people love books. Some people fall in love. And some people love books about falling in love. Every month our team sorts through the new romance books and sees how early readers are responding via their Want to Read shelvings and initial reviews. We use this information to curate a list of soon-to-be-beloved favorites.
New in October: A hometown reunion gets hot in Bad Girl Reputation. A Las Vegas trip gets dangerous in Partners in Crime. And a Christmas miracle gets weird in Just Like Magic. Also this month: TV baking shows, awkward hookups, and astronaut love.

In the popular 2016 romance It Ends with Us, readers were introduced to the complex love triangle of Lily Bloom and her two suitors–neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid and old flame Atlas Corrigan. Colleen Hoover’s follow-up novel takes place several years later, with Lily and Ryle now exes. The book tells Atlas’ side of the first story, and details what happens when Lily comes back into orbit again. It all starts with a date…
Author Elle Kennedy returns to Avalon Bay with the further adventures of Genevieve West, back again in her small coastal hometown. Genevieve has a reputation. She knows this. But she’s determined to do the sensible thing this time and stay away from her hot mess of an ex, Evan Hartley. Passion, of course, rarely if ever pays heed to such good intentions. Besides, second chances work out sometimes. Right?
“Mistakes were made” is an endlessly useful phrase. It acknowledges the mistake without actually identifying the mistake maker. This comes in handy when college senior Cassie Klein realizes that her hot one-night stand from the night before is actually…her best friend’s mom. Erin Bennett, said mom, wasn’t planning to sleep with a college student, either. Love has very few rules; lust even fewer. Who is at fault? Does it matter? Mistakes were made.
This busy debut rom-com–the first adult novel from established YA romance author Erin Hahn–features a tricky love triangle. Former child star Shelby Springfield wants to forget her past and concentrate on her vintage furniture business. Her former co-star Cameron Riggs wants to forget Shelby and concentrate on his documentary films. Her other former co-star Lyle Jessup wants to forget everything and concentrate on sex. There’s also a home renovation show involved, somehow.
Scottish author Samantha Young has cooked up an odd scenario in her latest love story: Event planner Hailie Goodman has been lurking–checking out home videos submitted by a client. This one guy is cute. And funny. And a former astronaut on the International Space Station. Her emails keep bouncing, though, so she figures it’s safe to play pretend and send some video diaries. No one will ever see those, right?
Mira Chaudhary is thirty-five and just kind of done with it all. She’s had plenty of chaos in her life, and now she just wants to settle down with someone normal, someone uncomplicated, someone boring, even. A matching app specializing in Indian American singles pairs her with sedate English professor Naveen Desai. Perfect! Then comes the Las Vegas trip. And the kidnappers. And the art heist. And the hackers. What just happened?
The latest from author Sarah Hogle (You Deserve Each Other) takes the typical holiday rom-com story in a new direction entirely. Bettie Hughes used to be rich. Not so much anymore. But one must keep up appearances, and there’s a big family reunion coming up. Bettie experiences a strange Christmas miracle when she plays a vinyl copy of “All I Want for Christmas Is You” backwards–and summons the Holiday Spirit in the form of a handsome man. Didn’t see that one coming.
Paris Daillencourt has a lot going for him. That glorious name, for one thing. Plus he’s got a giving nature, a classics degree, and a real talent for baking. Self-doubt is Paris’ big problem, and when he’s recruited into a TV baking show, his insecurities threaten to derail everything. Enter Tariq Hassan, fellow contestant. Tariq has all the confidence Paris lacks, and he’s willing to help. Can Paris get out of his own way? Author Alexis Hall (Boyfriend Material) has the answer.
‘Tis the season for the first wave of holiday-themed romances, like this one, just in from author Timothy Janovsky (Never Been Kissed). Spoiled rich kid Matthew Prince has been shipped off to his grandparents’ small town for the holidays. It looks like a total loss until Matthew meets handsome Hector Martinez. Can found family and forced proximity approximate real love and holiday cheer? Evidently.
The holidays are never simple, but Miriam Blum’s life about to get especially not-simple. Her beloved great aunt Cass has bequeathed Miriam partial ownership of her delightfully ironic Jewish-run Christmas tree farm. Included in the deal: the farm’s grouchy but beautiful manager Noelle Northwood. When Miriam and Noelle start getting the feels, all hope for simplicity is lost. Advance reviews of Season of Love promise “all of the warm, queer, Jewish holiday vibes you could possibly want.”
