it's about time women writing thrillers are recognised!

TMR Ooh interesting list.

message 4: by user (new)

user I knew I shouldn't have clicked on the banner. So disappointing...

message 5: by Anissa (last edited Apr 05, 2021 08:03AM) (new)

Anissa Great list! I have 12 from this list on my TBR, I've read and enjoyed Who Is Maud Dixon? and there are about 5 more I could see myself reading based on a casual glance at the summaries. Looking forward to more of Mystery & Thriller week.

I've read a lot of mysteries & thrillers (from Classic Crime to Cozy Mysteries) so far this year and I am glad to add more (though this is getting in the way of my science fiction reading). Good problems to have. :)

message 6: by Abigail Reilly (new)

Abigail Reilly I’m so excited for so many of these 💕

message 7: by Scott (new)

Scott Kauffman Looking forward to some great reads!

message 8: by Audra (new)

Audra ‘The Push’ is my next read. I’m about halfway through ‘Covet’ by Rachel Harley right now. I don’t hate it, but I’m not exactly in love with it either. Eh.

Meryl Twerking wrote: "43 books off this list were written by female authors. TOXIC FEMININITY!"

Thank you! I couldn't agree more. I hardly use Goodreads anymore for recs or highlights. Even "honest" book reviews are hard to find without some woke af person pushing an agenda. UGH!

"They'll" more likely say that it's my own damn fault that most of my favorite books are written by either a male author or have a male lead character. Oh well...

message 10: by Olga (new)

Olga Levitzki So exciting! Can't wait to read!

message 11: by Karla (new)

Karla Schneider That Michael Jackson silhouette on the right side, got exactly what I had in mind.

message 12: by AlwaysV (new)

AlwaysV I'm a huge lover of mystery/thriller ~ checking out what GR has promoted here makes me grin BIG 😝 None I'm interested in 😝

#1 ~ The Rock (DCI Ryan Mysteries, #18) by L.J. Ross The Rock will download on April 28th 💝 I think I'll add audible too~ nothing can compare to delicious British narrators💞

#1 ~ Murder in Unsound Mind (Doyle & Acton, #13) by Anne Cleeland Murder in Unsound Mind already read & loved it in February 2021 💝

#1 ~ Quiet in Her Bones by Nalini Singh Quiet in Her Bones ] already read & loved it in February 2021 💝

Gina Because women write the best thrillers.

message 15: by Vinoth (new)

Vinoth Raj so many books to read, but so little time

message 16: by ✧.* happi_mess (new)

✧.* happi_mess Mother May I
The Lost Village

Two of my most anticipated reads this year!! I hope I like it ✨

message 17: by Mark (new)

Mark I've tried many books by female authors but I really prefer male authors because they tend to be more to the point. Less sidetracking, less romance and more manly I guess. Is this maybe a common thing among other readers? That they prefer male or female authors in general? Not here for a flaming war, but looking to understand my own book preferences.

No one here is complaining about you liking books written by or about men. That is a fantasy in your head.

You, on the other hand, are complaining about other people liking books written by women.

So ...maybe try not to do the exact thing you accuse others of doing?

message 19: by Colleen (new)

Colleen Great list - even more on my tbr list now. So refreshing to have a list with a majority of female writers on it!

message 20: by Eli (new)

Eli Abbott This site is extremely slanted to female authors only. I hate this site. Barely look at the emails anymore. When I do, I continue to get turned off

message 21: by Tony (new)

Tony da Napoli Did not see any of the great UK-Euro-Nordic noir writers. Too provincial.

message 22: by Fenris (new)

Fenris Eli wrote: "This site is extremely slanted to female authors only. I hate this site. Barely look at the emails anymore. When I do, I continue to get turned off"

So why are you still here?

message 23: by Fenris (new)

Fenris I am really looking forward to Stacey Abram's novel, While Justice Sleeps! I had no idea she was a novelist, I am sad to admit. I also will be reading Later by Stephen King, and The Man Who Died Twice by Richard Osman. Oh, and for all of you poor misogynists who cannot abide women authors, go crawl back under your rocks.

message 24: by Betty (new)

Betty I read mostly mysteries, and there is no book on this list that has I want to read. Two of may are Lady Darby by Anna Lee Huber and one by David Rosenfeld one on new series about K-9 dogs. A woman and a man.

Mirrorland by Carole Johnstone!

It's on Net Galley!

I also cannot wait to read “The Lost Village.” The author Camilla Sten is awesome!!

message 27: by Warren (new)

Warren Hottest New (and Upcoming)? Stacy Abrams?! Harlan Coben is awful and I suspect this one is too. GR needs some diversity in their recommendations.
Where are Ocean Prey (Sandford), Enemy at the Gates (Flynn), The Dark Hours (Connelly), Baldacci, CJ Box...?!

Mary Warren wrote: "Hottest New (and Upcoming)? Stacy Abrams?! Harlan Coben is awful and I suspect this one is too. GR needs some diversity in their recommendations.

I personally feel that established authors like you mention Baldacci, Sandford, etc. don't need to be promoted on Good Reads. Their followers will read their books. I don't understand why folks hang out in a site like Goodreads if they don't agree with the books/ideas/whatevers listed! Your choice--get out! I'm looking for new ideas/authors, not old ones - which I already have in my TBR pile!!

message 29: by Shaelyn (new)

Shaelyn Mary, I 100% agree with you

message 30: by Liz (new)

Liz I’ve read quite a few of these. Who is Maud Dixon, Every Last Fear, The Survivors, The Good Sister, Six Weeks to Live, Findlay Donovan is killing It and The Burning Girls are all well worth the time to read. Four or five stars.
Not as thrilled by The Lost Village, The Push, The Wife Upstairs or The Lost Apothecary. But they’re each solid 3 stars.

message 31: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl Here is what I do when I see a book that doesn't interest me; now listen up because this is a secret...I walk or scroll right by and don't purchase it. Now use this information carefully, and you won't have to be contaminated by 'toxic femininity'!
It is striking to note that someone could be so upset simply because of what they perceive to be a female name on a book cover without knowing one thing about the book.

I would say, Stephen King, James Elroy, Paula Hawkins. Harlen Coben puts a steak in the heart of that theory not to mention the Heading says nothing about promoting "New" authors. All Goodreads is becoming good for is cataloging your library. I find much more unbiased reviewing over at Audible. Are there any people working at Goodreads who judge by the content of the book or is it just the sex of the author now?

message 33: by Lindsay (last edited Apr 07, 2021 12:03AM) (new)

Lindsay The fact that this completely innocent topic, a list of thriller book recommendations, has caused so many of you to write/attack each other's opinions is so incredibly ridiculous. Seriously, chill, it's a list of book recommendations! Like it, hate it, but please relax and stop with all the stupid pointless arguments and cruel comments. What is the point?!

message 34: by Jess (new)

Jess Already had lots of these on my TBR (and a few read already!) - but happy to add a few!

Joanna Elm Twerking wrote: "43 books off this list were written by female authors. TOXIC FEMININITY!"

Did you count Riley Sager in the 43???

message 37: by Peacejanz (new)

Peacejanz This is so absurd. Go back and read some history. We live in a male focused society in the US, western Europe - Hundreds of years ago, women writers had to take male names in order to get published. Most of you do not have a clue about the sex of the authors - only if you have seen them on TV and are you certain that was really the author, or someone she paid to speak as herself? Stacey Abrams supported herself for a long time writing bodice rippers under a pseudonym. I once sat through a debate between eminent university English professors about the bias or focus of male or female authors and their characters. They did not know the difference. Don't waste anymore time on this discussion. It does not matter. What matters is if the author or the description of the book interests you. And we do change our interests over time. I just read a comment on another site about Alex Delaware becoming trite. I thought so a long time ago and quit the Delaware mysteries. Some still love them. These list are just like the Goodreads giveaway list - a way for us to find out about new authors or new books published by authors we like or dislike. peace, janz

message 38: by Charmaine (new)

Charmaine Am I the only one who was looking through these synopses purely for inspiration for my next read, without giving a flying fig about the gender of the authors ?!

message 39: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Walkden-Brown Very unappealing list. Think your definition of thriller needs reassessment. Tedious whodunnits and boring mysteries. Not helpful in the least.

message 40: by William (last edited Apr 08, 2021 04:00AM) (new)

William The list left off True Crime Story
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...

the new work from the fabulous Joseph Knox. His Aidan Waits series starting with Sirens is the finest crime noir trilogy ever written.

My review of Sirens, a TEN STAR masterpiece

message 41: by Deborah (last edited Apr 08, 2021 04:08AM) (new)

Deborah Chissà quanto tempo dovremo aspettare prima che vengano tradotto in italiano. Molti autori e autrici non vengono neppure presi in considerazione purtroppo.

Who knows how long we will have to wait before they are translated into Italian. Unfortunately, many authors and female authors are not even taken into consideration.

message 42: by Kym (new)

Kym picked up a lot of good recommendations from this list...

message 43: by Kym (new)

Kym Twerking wrote: "43 books off this list were written by female authors. TOXIC FEMININITY!"

Twerking read 32 books in 2020. All of them were written by men.

Is this toxic masculinity?

message 44: by Daniel (new)

Daniel Ochirosi Stephen King, James Ellroy and Walter Mosley...the rest I can do without...

bohemianrhapsodyreads Charmaine wrote: "Am I the only one who was looking through these synopses purely for inspiration for my next read, without giving a flying fig about the gender of the authors ?!"

Flying fig lol same.

As a long time librarian, I think this is common. I read a lot of male authors before I retired for readers advisory reasons, but tend toward female ones. Margaret

message 47: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Covers of books - it’s strange but some covers just turn me away from reading a book ! Silly or what ? For example - Survive the Night - Skipped right over it lol

message 48: by Dbgirl (new)

Dbgirl This list had so many interesting sounding books, put so many on my to-read-list!

message 49: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Why is this not on the list?? Gone for Good Gone for Good (Detective Annalisa Vega, #1) by Joanna Schaffhausen

message 50: by Lynn (new)

Lynn Johnson I enjoyed Ossman's first mystery and am happily anticipating his next.
I've already ordered Stacey Abrams' book.
