Site problems - updated

Posted by Michael Economy on January 21, 2010
One of our power circuits died at the Goodreads datacenter. What this means is we're running on half power for the moment. We've got a man down there at the moment and are looking into it. If you're experiencing slowness or other problems, we're sorry about that. We're working to address this as quickly as possible. Thanks!

Update 1am pst:
some equipment was damaged as a result of the power fluctuations, some of our cache servers are still down.

Update 1:20 am pst:
i think all functionality should be restored. If you notice anything unusual, please report it in the comments.

Ugh.

Hope you're not sitting waiting too long!

Sandra All that rain, not mentioning the mud, and its 40deg here (that's 100+). Thanks for letting us know Michael. Hope the books good.

message 13: by rivka, Goodreads employee (new)

message 14: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Would you believe they had snow earlier this week down south in the Snowy Mountains (good name huh). We were all stunned speechless. Pretty weird.

What errors are you seeing? We just fixed 4 or so in the last hour.

message 19: by Steve (new)

Steve I just got an error to the effect that "there was no server available" to handle my post. I refreshed the page, resubmitting the post, and it worked.

message 20: by McNeil (new)

McNeil I keep trying to form a new group and it will not allow me to select a subtopic, which is a required field. Is this anything to do with the power outage, or is it another problem, or is it user error? is there a more appropriate place than this to ask questions like this?

Yes. The Feedback Group -- and there's already a topic on this issue: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/2...

Shane Glass I've been seeing this very unsightly error in Safari 4 on OS X for weeks. — http://drp.ly/vH5eN

It displays fine in Firefox, but I use Safari. So.. look in to it, please. :)

This is a bug in webkit. The size of the broken image tag is incorrect. Webkit should be rendering the alt tag, or at least honoring css, but its not.

I can fix the broken image, but its likely to happen again.

message 24: by Michael (new)

Michael Economy Ok, think i got a css hack which will prevent the broken layout. Should go out in the next release.
