message 10: by Robert Thompson (new)

Robert Thompson Read six as well.

I honestly feel so sorry for the suckers that are reading The Name of the Wind. They are in for a rude awakening.

message 11: by Marta (last edited Jan 17, 2020 05:59AM) (new)

Marta I have read 11. The only one I have not read is Ninth House. I guess it is time to add it to the list? I have read the Sixth of Crows from her.

I have absolutely loved all of them. These are truly the best fantasy out there. Circe, The Fifth Season, are stunning. The Witcher series is epic fantasy with a different slant. Pratchett is my all-time favorite., and Gaiman comes close. Tolkien and The Princess Bride are classic favorites.

The Name of The Wind has its problems, nevertheless it is a sweeping fantasy epic that is hard to put down (after about 200 pages). The biggest problem with it, and that of Game of Thrones, is that the series is unfinished and the author is showing no sign of completion of the next book...

A long rude awakening no less.

message 13: by Reenah (new)

Reenah I have read 10 from that list and Fantasy is not even my favourite genre. Ninth House is a bit of an odd one out on that list because it is the only Urban Fantasy. Loved it though.

message 14: by Rob (new)

Rob Read every single book except the books ranked #1 and #2 on this list. Guess I have to glance at them :)

I think they track "trending" by how many people have added the books to "currently reading" as of late. So it's not "top" as in "best" or "popular". The Witcher books are trending as of late because of the tv show.

message 18: by Matthew (new)

Matthew Manchester Why read Rothfuss when you can read Sanderson?
Sanderson finishes his series.

MikeB Great list, thx

message 30: by Chris (new)

Chris Everson Maitha wrote: "Why is the Way of Kings not on this list ?"

At a massively wild guess, I'd say because not enough people have mentioned it for it to be trending. A wild idea, I know.

Jordan Risebury-Crisp I've read 7/12, and interested in a few more.

message 37: by Elyse (new)

Elyse Maitha wrote: "Why is the Way of Kings not on this list ?"

Because there isn't an upsurge in its popularity per Goodreads. It has nothing to do with the quality of the book. "These 12 books are ranked according to 'buzz' over the last week, marked by a notable increase in reader activity on these book pages."

message 38: by Elyse (new)

Elyse I've read 8 and own the rest.

message 39: by Elyse (new)

Elyse Yon Nyan wrote: "I like how there's only one book on this list that's written by a POC author. Geez."

This is only based on what is currently popular on Goodreads. "These 12 books are ranked according to 'buzz' over the last week, marked by a notable increase in reader activity on these book pages."

message 40: by Aenea (new)

Aenea Jones Well I'm glad the pitiful Witcher show made people read the books :)

message 41: by Kenya (new)

Kenya Starflight Wow, at least two of these popped up on my "did not finish" list. Guess my taste in fantasy doesn't jive with most people's...

♥ Rebecca ♥ I’ve read 8/12. Not the first 3, or the other Witcher one which is at #5.

message 43: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Croft Tanya wrote: "I've read six and am interested in Rothfuss', but only if he'll ever finish it."
Apparently August this year - according to Amazon and book depository. Yet unconfirmed by the author. Worth reading for the first two -and novella regardless

LOL. Sanderson's in his own class.

message 47: by Christina (new)

Christina Guarneri Circe was amazing.
I hope that The Priory Of The Orange Tree starts to trend. It was an amazing book. The fantasy world created in that book was great. It’s intimidatingly long but it’s worth it.

Why is that? I personally couldn't get past the first 200 pages, there was so much detail about trivial things! I just couldn't get into it, but I have heard so many good things about it that I feel guilty for dnfing! but you're saying it's bad? Is the ending bad? or the book in general?
