27 Holiday Romance Novels to Cuddle Up With

Posted by Cybil on November 27, 2019

The holidays and heartwarming love stories...well, they just go hand in hand. And when it comes to playing up the most wonderful time of the year, the Hallmark Channel has nothing on the romance genre.

This year, there are plenty of new romance novels to satisfy your need for an end-of-year love story, from Jasmine Guillory's English Christmas getaway fling to a Regency-era page-turner with lots of fireside passion.

Be sure to add the books that ignite your holiday spirit to your Want to Read shelf.

Sarah "Holiday romance novels". Y'all, just say Christmas novels. Just admit you couldn't think of any non-Christmas winter holiday romance novels for your very hetero white book list.

Ashley James Jackie wrote: "this is very straight"

Not just straight (but you are 100% right about that!), but they all look so wholesome and puke-inducing. Are there really just no good romances out there? Do they all have to have vomit-inducing happy endings, be heteronormative, white, and freaking cute??? I suppose I came to the wrong list, as this is a "holiday list" but how about just good romance?

message 20: by Tanya (new)

Tanya I have been on a search for a great holiday romance for the last few Decembers, and have been disappointed book after book. This list seems like more of the same. My complaint is not that the titles are all heteronormative, white, Christian, or wholesome. It's that they have no substance. How many small town/cowboy/let's fall in love while we put on a Christmas parade plot lines can there be? I just wish more people would write Christmas romances that were good enough to stand on their own, that people would want to read at other times than in December. I won't complain if the whole thing doesn't take place between Thanksgiving and Christmas! Just give me something that's compelling and well-written and has a little depth!

message 21: by Janet D. Bliss (new)

Janet D. Bliss Melissa F. I discovered Ann Christopher's Journey's End and have thoroughly enjoyed every one of her many novels. I don't recall any of her books taking place specifically during the holidays, but I loved how she made me feel with her emphasis on family and friends.

message 22: by Samantha (new)

Samantha I was hoping for at least 1 Jewish/Hanukkah romance, but I guess that was too much to ask for.

message 23: by Louise (new)

Louise Mcginley I read wrapped up in you and would not class it as Christmas just because it mentions Christmas eve twice in the book does not make it a Christmas theme book

message 24: by kittykat (Jo Tortitude) (last edited Dec 24, 2019 05:46AM) (new)

kittykat (Jo Tortitude) Totally agree that this particular selection should be called Christmas romances not 'holiday' (if you want to refer to 'holidays' as being more than Christmas, you really do need to reflect that in the choices that you recommend) but TBH that seems to be a singularly US term of phrase used for this time of the year.

The problem here is that I think none of these books are by indie/self-pubbed authors. You want something different - you need to look outside of the boxes that the mainstream publishing houses construct as whilst they are getting better, it's still not nearly as wide in scope as it should be, given the ever evolving sensibilities of the contemporary reader.

So a few solutions I've come across recently (some I've read, some I have on my radar)...

Non-christmas 'wintertime' stories

Hanukkah at the Great Greenwich Ice Creamery by Sharon Ibbotson Light Me Up by Rebecca Royce The Longest Night (Starwood) by Yasmine Galenorn The Midwinter Mail-Order Bride (The Dead Lands, #1; Mail-Order Brides, #4) by Kati Wilde

POC MCs

Merry Inkmas by Talia Hibbert The Christmas Tree Guy by Railyn Stone The Holiday Boyfriend by Twyla Turner One Bed for Christmas (Baldwin Village, #0.5) by Jackie Lau I'll Be Home for Christmas by Beverly Jenkins

Queer MCs

Mangos and Mistletoe by Adriana Herrera Hometown Christmas by Garrett Leigh Dragon of Glass (Fae Shifter Knights, #1) by Zoe Chant
Christmas According to Liam and All I Want for Christmas both by V.L. Locey (the individual book links won't work for some reason even though they are on GR)
