24 New and Upcoming Graphic Novels for Young Readers

Posted by Marie on August 9, 2019
Want to encourage young readers to keep up their reading habits? Look no further than this year's buzziest YA and middle-grade graphic novels.

More than just visual delights, these new and upcoming titles reflect many of the coming-of-age moments young readers experience. Pumpkinheads, by Rainbow Rowell and Faith Erin Hicks, explores the joys of first love. Jerry Craft's New Kid captures the challenges of starting over at a new school. The latest installments of the Lumberjanes and 5 Worlds series show how friendship can overcome impossible odds.

To create this list, we focused on both published and yet-to-be released graphic novels that Goodreads members keep adding to their Want to Read shelves. From there, we divided our list into both a young adult and middle-grade category for easy browsing.

Louie Yes! Finally graphic novels are featured in a post! Especially ones for young readers! Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy is a very good and important retelling about what real family is. And Mooncakes looks so good too.

Rachel Reads Ravenously Love this list!

Aixa Amado Loooooved Fence I highly highly recommend it!!!

message 4: by Sarah (new)

Sarah This Was Our Pact is phenomenal!

message 5: by Kenya (new)

Kenya Starflight I would add Cheshire Crossing to this list -- phenomenal collab by Andy Weir and Sarah Andersen, and a fun crossover comic. Maybe it's not considered "new" because it's basically a redrawn webcomic...

message 11: by Jeuce (new)

Jeuce Curious about the distinction between young adult and middle-grade. My nephew is close to 13 and I'd assume he's "middle-grade" but want to make sure I'm searching the right lists.

Lucille Lantz Lucille Lantz The Button a peek into the journey of a Jewish family from Austria to America. Exciting history filled with emotion.
