Goodreads Believes in Book Fairies – and You Can, Too

Goodreads was founded ten years ago with the mission of helping people find and share books they love. Through Goodreads, readers have added 1.9 billion books to their shelves, written 67 million reviews, and connected with more than 200,000 authors over a shared love of reading.
On Monday, September 18, you can help even more readers find amazing books by participating in our Hide a Book Day. As part of our Ten-Year Anniversary Celebration, Goodreads is teaming up with our fellow book lovers at The Book Fairies to hide books around their neighborhoods for people to find, read, and leave for the next person.
We’re inviting authors to participate, too. You can leave out one of your own books or share a favorite book from another author. Hiding your own book? Make it extra special by signing it. Don’t forget to ask your street team or beta reviewers to get involved as well. Here’s everything you need to know to get involved:
You never know if you’re placing a book for someone who finds it at exactly the right time, and how they end up changing the world because of it.

Don’t forget to ask your street team or beta reviewers to get involved as well. Here’s everything you need to know to get involved:
- First you need the two stickers for each book. Order them here to get your stickers before September 18. The Book Fairies work magic, but they are based in England and do need time to get them out to you, so don't delay (order them today)!
- Hide the book in a semi-obvious spot for someone to find. We recommend a high-traffic area like train and bus stops, national monuments, and parks. But watch the weather forecast as you don’t want your book to get soggy.
- Once you’ve hidden a book, take a picture and share it with your fellow Goodreads members and Book Fairies on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using the hashtags #goodreadsturns10 #hideabookday, #ibelieveinbookfairies.
You never know if you’re placing a book for someone who finds it at exactly the right time, and how they end up changing the world because of it.

Since most of my books are about time travel, I will be hiding one book in the 15th century (post Gutenberg). I'll hide another as an e-book in the year 2215, where kindles are obsolete.

I'll be hiding a signed copy of Blood Omen 1: The Vampire Wars, a YA fiction book translated into Georgian as 'vampiruli omebi: pirveli nadiroba' in Tbilisi, Georgia. :)

Lovely idea! I will be hiding copies of my novel, "Be Still the Water," and the book, "Where Children Run" in and around Winnipeg that day. Thank you for initiating this event - it should be fun.
What a great idea this is. In a way I feel somewhat honoured to be a very small part of this so I'm going to hid one or two copies of The Burden of Truth somewhere local. I have an idea where and hopefully it may do some good. Fingers crossed.

I'm so glad I found this in time to order stickers so I can hide my books: What Remains Unsaid and Dance of Souls. And I'll be letting other authors know about this!
I'm going to hide Sacrificial Lam and A Late Flooding Thaw. This is a great way to get books into readers' hands in a fun way.
I like the serendipity of this, but it loses it's appeal once the social media, self-aggrandizement component is factored in. Mine will be out there, but I'll pass on the self-promotion.
