The power of our thoughts
“We have an amazing ability to create just about any thought imaginable”
That, in itself, is fantastic. It shows just how incredible we are as human beings, but there’s a downside to it too.
“Unfortunately, we’re often better at destroying those thoughts through our innate ability to doubt and critique ourselves…”
Why do we do this? Its almost as if we do this at every possible moment. Once we receive good news, we enjoy that moment for a very short period of time and then quickly progress to thinking of reasons why the good news we just received, will suddenly end.
“Yes, we are very skilled in thinking of all the worst possible things that could happen and we’ll easily justify them by thinking of reasons and scenarios that ‘could’ pop up and take our dreams away.”
A few weeks ago, a friend of mine said something interesting. She said “The negative thoughts stick like Velcro and positive thoughts and experiences slip like Teflon”. How recognizable this is. It was in response to a morning thought I had posted on Facebook, whereby I posed the question of why our experiences of sadness last longer than our experiences of happiness. I wanted to gauge others’ ideas about this, and so I wrote this on my timeline. It received very detailed comments and opinions. It was wonderful to engage in such a way. It was something many people could relate to.
We are scared beings. Scared of living and experiencing. We are scared of losing things that are valuable to us. And so, in an act of self-protection, we begin to prepare ourselves for the worst of things to come. Through our thoughts of fears we generate even more of what we are afraid of. It can be no other way. What we think about, we manifest, whether wanted or not.
If we could focus some what more on the things we love in life, then the chances are we would experience more of that too.
Good to think about!
