It’s a new year…and I’m already thinking about all of the books I want to read this year!
As a writer, it sometimes seems tough to fit in time to read, but it’s so important. I love how Stephen King talks in his book On Writing about this. He says, “If you don’t have time to read, you don’t have the time to write. Simple as that.” Reading keeps you grounded in solid writing techniques, helps you identify with readers, and helps you find your writing identity.
Thus, no matter how busy I get with teaching, grad school, writing, editing, and marketing, I always vow to make time for reading.
My TBR pile is always growing, but here are the books on my priority list for this year:
12 Years a Slave
Far From the Maddening Crowd
Eleanor & Park
The Red Queen
The entire Sookie Stackhouse series (I’m only on book 2)
Maggie’s Marriage by Gloria Herrmann
Catcher in the Rye (I know, I should have read this already!)
The Chocolate War
All the Lights We Cannot See
Sophie’s Choice
What’s on your TBR pile this year? What should I add to mine? Suggestion always welcome!!
