Kabbalah is NOT a Cult

I self-published a book named Choosing Honor in 2008. The distributor of the book decided it was best to tag the book’s genre as Religion. This surprised me, because even though I do write about Kabbalah and use the Tree of Life as a basis for my thesis in Choosing Honor, the only religion this book promotes is freedom. Freedom, is the religion Abraham Lincoln proposed should be our national political religion.

“Let reverence for the laws that protect our freedom, be breathed by every American mother, to the lisping babe, that prattles on her lap--let it be taught in schools, in seminaries, and in colleges; let it be written in Primers, spelling books, and in Almanacs;--let it be preached from the pulpit, proclaimed in legislative halls, and enforced in courts of justice. And, in short, let it become the political religion of the nation; and let the old and the young, the rich and the poor, the grave and the gay, of all sexes and tongues, and colors and conditions, sacrifice unceasingly upon its altars.”
Abraham Lincoln – January 27, 1838

The impetus for Lincoln’s speech was recent mob rule that had resulted in the killing of a mulatto man in St. Louis. The impetus for writing Choosing Honor was the War on Terror. Lincoln was calling for the public to wake up to the mind games leading them down the path of desecrating what our nation was meant to be. Choosing Honor echoes this call.

Choosing Honor has won more than a handful of nods and awards from national book judges and competitions over the years. Unfortunately, the 18th Annual Writer’s Digest Self-Published Book Awards did not rank Choosing Honor among its winners, but they did send me a Judge’s commentary that I find worth reprinting. (The entire text is reprinted as a photo accompanying this story http://bit.ly/f0VOAX) I take exception though to this judge referring to Kabbalah as a movement or cult.

Kabbalah is neither a movement nor a cult; Kabbalah is an ancient diagram of unknown origin that is also known as the Tree of Life. Sumerians in the oldest culture we know of, a culture that is at the heart of modern civilization, drew pictures of the Tree of Life. Teachings and stories about the Tree of Life begin the Judeo-Christian religious texts. The Tree of Life is also at the root of Islamic teachings. Kabbalah is not a cult; it isn’t an organized anything. Kabbalah is a diagram of the life force, the energy that connects us all.

Psychologist Carl Jung used Kabbalah to come up with his theory of a collective unconscious. He used the practice known as Yoga of the West that assigns a Tarot card to each path on the Kabbalah diagram to divine personality types and define archetypes that connect us all.

Scientists in Israel have fleshed out the dimensional aspects of the Kabbalah diagram and created multidimensional renditions of the Tree. The result uncannily reflects DNA.

I use Kabbalah in Choosing Honor to demonstrate the very real spiritual connection all religions, science and humanity share. The War on Terror is a mind game that defiles this connection. The current rise of religious rigidity in America and around the world is based on false differences. The false differences are being used to divide and conquer free human beings by inflaming hatred and violence. It is a mind game that we the public need to wake up to and resist.

The Writer’s Digest Judge found my pinpointing the mind game deceptions and then consistently repeating that the public/reader needs to wake up and resist the deceptions to be overkill. In light of the recent shootings in Arizona, I think our nation actually needs additional echoes of my call for our public to wake up.

The Writer’s Digest Judge says Choosing Honor “provides a stiff but workable program for a new national if not universal spine.” Amen. I accept being “preachy” and repeat my “clarion” call yet again, it is only when “we the people” wake up and resist the mind games being used to divide us that we will truly begin to realize freedom and the American dream. Freedom is only possible if we experience an inner awakening, a realization that the power to climb the Tree of Life is ours. The only thing stopping us is us, “we the people.”

Mary T. Ficalora, is the author of the award winning book, Choosing Honor: a philosophical treatise that applies the symbolism found on the Tree of Life to reveal an unpredictable tonic for what ails America. www.availpress.com

Amy Thank you.
I am always late. If we're talking about time, I'm passed due, but if we're talking about when it was that I needed this most; it was the perfect timing.
Those years were long, but now they'll seem short, and they'll get further away because the years ahead are so full and bright. Thank you, again.
It's so good to see another
