“Everyday she wakes up
it’s always a struggle,
a continuous battle between
her head and the reality
of surviving day to day
in a life that she sometimes
wonders if it is really worth it.
I can see her trying.
I can hear the defeat in her
voice and see the torture
in her walk when all she wants
is to be okay again,
to be able to live outside
of this world that she somehow
found herself trapped in,
only to be touched but not recused.
She doesn’t need to
tell me about the darkness
in her mind when I can see
the proof of it all inside of her eyes.”
