A request...

killianbrewer:

When I set out to write The Rules of Ever After, I told my publisher that I wanted to write a book that I wish I could have read when I was a young man. I wanted to take the fairy tale and fantasy adventure stories that I loved and put a LGBTQ character (or 4) in there.

But here is the deal. If this book had existed when I was a young man (and gay stories most certainly did) there is only one place that young me could have found it–the library.

I grew up in a small town with no bookstore. Even if we had a bookstore, I cannot imagine confused, closeted me walking into the gay and lesbian section to find the book (if the store even had such a section). Amazon was way off in the future then, but, even if it had existed, I would not have been able to secretly order, pay for and receive a book with a gay theme in my conservative household.

But if it had been in the library, there is a chance I would have found it and read it. And I wonder how different my life could have been if I had.

So if you are thinking of ordering my book, think about donating it to your local library. Some kid who wants or needs to read it will be so glad you did.
