In a busy society where screens are omnipresent and smartphones are a must-have, it���s easy to understand why people don���t read as many books anymore. A recent US study that involved 1,000 adults, found that 28% of those interviewed didn���t read a single book last year. Reading books is not just engaging, motivating and entertaining, but also healthy. It helps the brain process data faster, it feeds the intellect with useful, practical information and in some ways it makes us happier. Here are 6 science-based reasons to read books.



Reading calms people���s nerves

If you���re stressed out, reading a book can prove to be an extremely helpful medicine. A 2009 study performed in Sussex, at Mindlab University, showed that book reading overcomes stress, thus beating other favorites relievers like drinking tea, walking or listening to music.
