How to Donate

We know that our Marilu.com family makes up one of the kindest communities in existence.  We love the way our members give back.  In celebration of that we’re going to share some of our best tips for making use of items you no longer need.  Most of us are fortunate enough to have more than we need.  There’s probably a blouse in your closet that makes you look washed out and so it takes up space and spends season after season on a hanger.

There’s no reason why that blouse can’t be donated if it’s in good shape.  Take a look at what else is going to waste in the hope that “one day” it will be the right choice.

One of the biggest hurdles that homeless individuals face is the lack of a suitable wardrobe in order to go on job interviews.  Check out:

Or call your local municipal authorities, or do a search on line to find out what’s needed in your own community.

Before you donate take the time to look over your items for signs of wear.  Missing buttons and broken zippers should be repaired BEFORE you donate.  If the fabric is torn in an area that can’t be well mended, or has a stain that won’t come out then it isn’t suitable for donation.  Respect the future owners of these items.

Another tip:  keep a basket, a bin, or a shopping bag in a convenient location such as your closet or laundry room.  When you decide that an item is in good shape but not being used enough for you to keep it, place it in the container right away instead of waiting for a closet clean out day.  Keeping up with your wardrobe in this way helps others and makes your own life more manageable.
