Authors Supporting Authors: Chad Hofmann
Either I'm not fully awake yet or I really am dense. I asked Chad what is one thing he would like to share with everyone. His answer? "I'm standing right behind you." And of course I actually looked behind me...and then busted out laughing. So thank you Chad for that early morning laugh. Keep on reading to learn more about Chad. I hope you enjoy meeting Chad as much as I did! What is your name?
Chad Hofmann
Where are you from?
I was born in Virginia in the Untied States
What genre are you in?
I really like to try and experiment with genres, I have a goal to one day have a book written in every genre I can (excluding romance, sorry just not my cup of tea). However when I write it typically ends up being horror, or some kind of dark sci-fi/paranormal story. I'm my main characters' worst enemy, I frequently like to ruin their day.
Please list your books and the year of publication.
Helena, (2012)
The Bird Room, (2014)
Why are you an Author?
I love stories. Telling them, listening to them, exploring them, everything about stories. When I was younger things didn't always go my way, so when life was too tough I would get lost in books and writing. Who doesn't love being able to play God and create whole worlds where the rules are only limited by the extent of your own imagination? Oh and it's pretty cool when other people like your writing. Feels good.
What inspires you?
Life and everything. I never know what or when I will have an idea. Just the other day I thought of an entire story when I saw the shape of a water splash that had spilled on a dry rock, while I was walking the dog.
Where and what times during the day do you work best?
I typically work in the first half of the day, but I'm not too choosy. If I don't have time in the morning or afternoon, I will work in the evening or night. And normally I like to write on my couch or somewhere else around the house, alone. I get distracted easily and when I write I want to give my full attention to the story.
Who is your target audience?
There's a wide variety of people I want to be my audience, right now its mostly adults who enjoy horror and sci-fi stories. As well as young adults. I like to write stories for young adults because I remember how important they were to me as a boy. So I try and write stories I think I would have liked to read when I was a kid.
How do you want your readers to feel as they read your book?
Like they want to read my next one.
What is one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?
Just keep writing. Even when it get's hard and discouraging, don't quit. After you finish your book do everything you can to tell the world about it. Then write another.
Share one thing about yourself that you would like readers to know.
I'm standing right behind you...
I see that you started a blog. How do you write for you blog? What are some topics that you are passionate about?
I'm not going to lie to you, I am still figuring out this thing we call a blog. I feel like I understand a great many things in this world, blogging does not seem to be one of them. But stay tuned, that will change.
Dark Adventure. With a smile. I have to ask – what does that mean?
I was sitting around trying to think of a few words to sum myself and my writing up and this is what happened. A lot of my writing has been kind of dark and a little twisted, but that doesn't stop it from laughing in your face at the end. Sometimes literally.
Are you currently working on another book?
Boy am I. I've been going non-stop lately. I have one that hasn't quite made it from my brain onto paper yet, and another that is about a robot that is part of the way written (tenative release date is early summer 2015), and I will be re-releasing my young adult fiction book Helena on November 1st 2014 (maybe earlier if I can swing it).
