Chapter 183: Tracking


Tamaes throttled his sword hilt as he scanned the barren landscape. “We are exposed. If any Fallen are near, they must see us.”


“And we will see them,” Taweel said. “With no danger of ambush, you can focus.”


His grip eased. Trekking up a rocky slope, Tamaes found nothing but spiky weeds and fitful winds. “Demons do not leave tracks,” he murmured, half to himself. “What am I looking for?”


“Destruction. Confusion. An unholy stench. An off-key clam–”


Bent figures appeared on the neighboring rise and flung garbled accusations that set Tamaes’s teeth on edge.


Taweel sighed. “And lies.”
