Read whatever you like
Recently I’ve read several posts and news about adults shouldn’t read YA. I think that’s completely ridiculous.
If the story is good enough for making you imagine the situation, create the world in your mind, feel what the characters are feeling and have fun with it, then just read it. It doesn’t matter if its romance, YA, mystery or historical.
If you enjoy it, read it.
I’ve read many different genres in my short life and I don’t feel any shame when I say I’m 26 and I read and write YA. I also read children books. They are the most simple way to telling a story and also the more complex. Think about The Chronicles of Narnia. Reading them as a child is so much fun, cause you can imagine and feel the magic of the story. Reading it as an adult makes you realize things that you didn’t get when you were young, making the story more memorable for your soul. You can still enjoy the magic of the story as an adult.
I’ve re read many books from I was young: Harry Potter, The Chronicles of Narnia, Grimm’s tales, Alice in Wonderland, etc. Children books. So what? I still feel I enjoy them and I can have new experiences with them cause now I understand more about me and life.
With YA is the same. Reading as a teenager makes you feel the story in a certain way, while reading them as an adult let you understand so much more about the story that you probably didn’t understand, or you have now a new way to see life. You can still enjoy the story.
So, in conclusion, READ WHATEVER YOU LIKE.
