Summary:
Three seemingly anonymous high school seniors attempt to finally make a name for themselves. Their idea is innocent enough – let’s throw a party that no one will forget, and have a camera there, to document history in the making. But nothing could prepare them for this party. Word spreads quickly as dreams are ruined, records are blemished and legends are born.
The fact this movie is included in my Found Footage Movie List shouldn’t be too big a surprise for everyone who knows me. People forget I’m only 20 years old, only two years out of my teenaged years. There’s still a party animal in me, and this movie attracted that animal at first glance.
Following three teenage geeks seeking popularity (and dates) this movie documents one of the most epic house parties of all time. What begins as a birthday get-together for the main characters quickly turns into a raging party that nobody will ever forget. Starting with just the three guys and ending with a couple thousand high school/college students (plus a few rowdy adults), this movie is about the excellence that is partying.
The reaction to this movie had me laughing, as it was typical. Pretty much everyone under 25 loved it while everyone over despised it. I guess since I’m in the “under” category it only makes sense that I loved it.
Featuring a killer soundtrack, Project X is the heart and soul of what it means to be young and reckless. The geeks of the movie finally gain the respect and popularity that they’ve always desired, and even though they all are in some serious trouble with the police and their parents, it was all worth it to have finally gotten everything they’ve wanted. Especially the main character Thomas (Thomas Mann) who not only got the respect, but also the girl.
Loving this movie might just show how old you are on the inside, and will bring out the party animal in you. Make sure to crack open a beer while watching the movie that landed the #7 spot on my Found Footage Movie List!
