Naiveté

I have a certain naiveté

even after all these years.

I find it hard to accept

that others can be cunning,

devious, even ruthless,

thus fall into the trap again.

I don’t think it is because

I need to be a victim but rather

have retained a child-like

wonder of the beauty of the

world that our Creator has

given us.

Lord, protect my naiveté

and deliver me from cynicism.

Let me remain a believer

in the Tooth Fairy

and the goodness of man.
