I asked this very same question last year and decided to renew even though I couldn’t quite figure what RWA membership does for me other than grant me the country’s most expensive magazine subscription. Most people who were kind enough to respond and offer their opinions said they stayed in RWA because they had kick-ass local chapters. I have no local chapter, so once again I’m wondering if it is worth it for me to renew.
I want to believe that RWA actually does something for me – that there are benefits to membership that I’m just not seeing. I like to think that out there somewhere is a hidden font of useful information and camaraderie that I’m just somehow missing the access codes for.
So, please, tell me, why do you stay in RWA? Is there anything out there? Or maybe you’ve chosen to leave membership behind? Is there life after a lapse? I’d really love to know your opinions!
