Walk With Me
I recently had a few email exchanges with a dear old friend from the Great Pacific NW. Poor guy, I put my walk ahead of him... I said, "Hey, Chris. Sorry, but Rani is giving me that look. We need to walk to our Bruja rock so I can tap my foot on her Majesty."Then I got thinking. Why don't I dedicate a blog to this walk, but this time with photos from my shiny new camera? So this one is for you, my friend, and for all of you readers, I also share this mesmerizing experience.
We start outside my house. Looking north, I can see the rock that will fill our insides with magic dust. It's about a two mile walk, with delicious things to see along the way.
Wait a minute. We must back this up a bit. Here is where we actually start this morning's routine. Finally, meet Rani. As you can see, her fur has grown back, covering all her dalmationy spots.
This is, without a doubt the best time of day for her.
Ok, let's get back to our walk...
I know, I know... this looks like a resort, but in fact, is is the beach access for those living at Quintas del Mar. And, yes. That includes Rani and me. So, this is our backyard, or front yard, or maybe I will just call it our stomping grounds. For those of you deciding where to go for a get-away, this walk will give you a taste of the way folks start their day here.
This magical little spot is a great place to find a really cold cerveza on a hot afternoon. It's called Cerritos, it serves food and beverage to the folks who live behind it, but also to the barefooted walkers like myself. "Ah... a bucket on ice, please."
Ahead is the Riu Hotel, look it up. They have a lot to offer, but be careful! Don't be tempted to spend all your time here. A great place to stay, but please, wander out into town so you can see all her great wonders.
We're getting closer to the peddlers in front of the Riu. You can purchase jewelry, sunglasses, apparel, and even get a massage on the beach! Wow, I am beginning to sound like a travel agent. Let's just enjoy.
Mexico is famous for bold color picks. I'm thinking about going crazy with my paint choices when I get to that part of my villa remodel. Hmmm, what could I do that would make me smile each day? Hot pink? Bright yellow? Hey, how about pink, green, yellow, blue combo to start with? Hmmm....
Love the hatman!
Past the Riu, we are getting close to our destination. Almost time to touch this beauty with my foot. I often need to educate tourists about this idea of magic in the rock. Most listen to me and become foot touchers, some look at me with haze over their eyes. I wonder if those who choose not to believe feel the enchanted dust. Probably not.
Ah, I just love fishermen. There is one problem here, however. This isn't the best place for them to be successful. I won't tell, they are having too much fun.Bruja is one of the three most popular beaches for surfers in town. Oh, I love the feel of sand between my toes.
At last, this is where I unleash Rani so she can run around, do her morning business. Don't worry, she carries her own bags tied to her leash. Very responsible dog, she is.
Backing away from the rock, we are headed to the restaurant on the hill. This beach is called Playa Bruja, the area is called Cerritos.
I'm including a painting that I did for my childrens' books as featured on the home page of this website. I did, however change the painting to include a witch, where in fact, the actual rock displays a surfer.
The restaurant is called Playa Bruja Restaurant, or commonly know here as Mr. Lionso Playa Bruja. Senior Lionso is the owner of this beauty.
Inside Mr. Lionso's place, you will find delightful atmosphere. Friday is music night. After enjoying delicious Mexican cuisine, the evening is clear for dancing. A great place to dine while watching surfers in the day, or dance at night.
The front of Playa Bruja is quite lovely, not as rustic as the beach entrance. Again, great colors.
Here is the deal. I could stop with our walk now, or take you on the regular route. I choose the norm. From the restaurant, we will now walk to the end of this road. It's the only way to get around the mystical Bruja rock (feeling the magic dust yet?).
Here we are, the very end of Cerritos where the waiter was kind enough to pose for me, and we can see the sea beyond Bruja rock. In the winter months, you can come down here and buy fish off the boats.
Honestly? We have now turned around. Yes, we are on our way home, our backs now to the nice waiter. There are little shops and restaurants here, and as you can see, the Riu Hotel in the distance is now to the south of us.
Ahhh. This is where I enjoy my espresso doble and buy my rich dark coffee beans to take home.
A plug for Looney Beans... they will open for the winter on October 18th, and for an added treat... they have broken through the south wall to include a restaurant in their already fabulous establishment.
Oh, and they are dog friendly. Can't wait, hurry up my Looney Beans friends! I would tell you that we are done, but wait. We need to walk back home! Below are a few beautiful photos of what we will see in the last part of our journey. Hope you enjoyed the walk, you should now be ready to have a great day.
Saludos!
