MY DISRUPTIVE CHALLENGE
Social Media. “It’s a bear to deal with. It’s a huge commitment of time to build followers. It can be very entertaining, It’s fun to throw out a clever line here or there, or share an interesting link with people. But to be successful at it, you need to be present all the time.
“I also wonder if it’s a generational thing. If you’re old than, say, 35 — I think we were all brought up with a certain degree of privacy. My parents wouldn’t even say cancer out loud. They would say ‘Somebody has the big C.’ And now everybody is expected to share the most intimate details of their lives.
“It’s the biggest adjust of the decade — figuring out how does it fit into your private life, your professional life? How do you decide what to keep for yourself, what to process in a different way?”
The challenge for all of us: “It’s very easy to say what was hot last week. It’s very hard to say what will be hot next week, and what’s going to be useful. The great entrepreneurs can see that path through the forest and they don’t allow themselves to be easily distracted by all the trees!”
