MY DISRUPTIVE CHALLENGE
Big Data. “I’ve started seven companies in my career and two of them were data companies. So I understand the power behind collecting all that data. But just because you can do it doesn’t mean you should. My fear is that companies are becoming so enmeshed in the collection of data, that they lose all the insight that they should be drawing from it.
“The key thing to focus on is interpretation. You can have this mountain of information, but it’s how you interpret it that will help you build a better business, ultimately serving your customers better.”
Customers Can Use Big Data to Push Back “Now, once all that information is out there — anything that you desire, you can send RFPs (Request for Proposal) to companies and say, ‘I’m not going to play by your rules. Here are my rules: Here’s the color I want, the date I want to receive it. Here’s the price-point I’m willing to pay. Have your proposal back to me and I’ll decide what to do.
“When more and more customers start doing that, companies will go, ‘Dang, they figured it out!’”
