Inside scoop #5 comes with a photo. The cottage Ben’s mother owns with his aunt was inspired by this real life location - my grandparent’s trailer in Caseville, MI. I have so many fond memories of my grandparents, parents, and family spending weekends and holidays here. It was also the place I most felt my grandparent’s presence after they passed. I’ve long desired to do something creative with my memories of Caseville, and using it as an inspiration in Half A Life, was a nice way to start. Even though I called it a cottage in the story, and changed some of the things around, when I envision the characters being there - I only seen them in the trailer. Even the scene where Sarah, Ben, and David go for a walk and sit at their favorite spot by the water was based on my favorite spot on the lake behind the trailer. Who knows, maybe a non-fiction project based on my and my families memories could be in the foreseeable future.
