A question for my reader… yeah you…

I was catching up on my reading while taking the eldest to his drum lesson and stumbled on this great post about in medias res.

It made me realise how close to the mark "An0ma1y" is to this. I barely give the reader enough time to get to know Desi before she's whisked off by Aliens for a Universe spanning Temporal Epic, and although I've never had any complaints about the start of the novel it does make me wonder if I gave the reader enough time to get to know Desi before pulling her out of her world.
What do you think line reader? Did I establish Desi enough as a person before that TV exploded?
