I actually love stories where one of them breaks the others heart. Not necessarily during the story but from the past. 

Take Drew from FOOL ME ONCE. He left my heroine in a hotel room after a wild night of sex and then when they reconnected, he had to work his tail off to get Skylar to forgive him.
