What Kind of Story is This?

I'm always writing between genres, but this time I've stumped myself.

I can't figure out the category of my new story, entitled SPLINTER. Is it science fiction? Is it fantasy? Is it some kind of supernatural hybrid?

I've posted SPLINTER on my freelance writing blog, SweetCopy and I hope that readers will help me figure out where it belongs so I'll have a chance to place it in some kind of collection in the future.
