Hello everyone!

I'm thrilled to be part of the Goodreads family and look forward to connecting with great, quality writers across the world!

I'm very new to this game, so apologies if I haven't quite "got it", but hopefully you will help me along the way. I hope to do the same for you too.

Like so many authors, it's been a long, long journey to get my book, Run Away, published on amazon kindle. I could have pursued hundreds of agents and publishers and looked multiple rejection in the face, but decided to take the harder, more arduous path myself. Twitter has been great and I thank all those who have bothered to follow me and also to retweet or favourite my tweets. I know it's a numbers game and hope that eventually the news about my book will spread.

Let me know your story too and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

S.P. Harrison I'm new to this too Alex. I am finding getting to grips with the Goodreads site a little difficult and wonder if I am getting it right. I guess it takes time to to establish and one has to build slowly.

My book is also a memoir "I am a 60 Year Old Woman: How Did That Happen?" and is also an ebook on Amazon. It was amazing to have finished it and to upload it to Amazon but it wasn't before long I realised that it was literally sitting, on its own, on a dusty virtual shelf where really nobody knew it was there. I guess you have experienced this also. We may have spent many months/years working hard on our book, getting it onto Amazon but now the real hard work begins - we have to promote it ourselves. I am not very good at self-promotion though.

I wish you luck. I shall read your book.

Alex Johnson How great to get a comment! I immediately took a look at your amazon page and am very interested in reading your book too. Do take a look at a really good website www.fightingfifty.co.uk. I know Tracey well and I've done a lot of research into how the beauty industry is ignoring the needs of the older woman. Too much airbrushing and use of young models to advertise anti-ageing creams, etc.

I get the impression that people using Goodreads are finding that their books are getting much better exposure than through amazon alone. I'd love to hear from others to find out if that's true.

Good luck with the writing and keep in touch.

Fred Welcome to Goodreads I am not a writer but am a reader so use the site to search out those authors who don't get the exposure in the mainstream press etc. Look forward to following your exploits and good luck.
