Cheap and Vulgar – Excerpt from The Accidental Immortal
Dani emerged into the hallway where a few people were milling about. Her heart lifted when she saw Rein, but she paused when she realized he was having a full-blown row with his parents.
“Honestly, Rein, she’s not on your level,” Queen Marisol said.
A shock went through Dani, and her color rose as if she’d been slapped across the face.
“She’s immortal,” Rein shot back.
“She’s an accidental immortal, Rein,” added the queen in a low hiss. “It’s not the same as being born one.”
“It’s cheap and vulgar,” King Felix said. “I’m not going to argue with you, son. Your mother and I have already arranged — ”
“Odin speaks,” came a deep baritone. An oversized bailiff in a furry Viking outfit had emerged from the courtroom. At nine feet tall, he was one of the smaller giants Dani had seen.
Rein caught sight of Dani. “Wait for me.”
Dani opened her mouth to respond, but no words came out. King Felix and Queen Marisol were staring at her with the same glare they’d give a stinkbug.
“Come along, Rein,” the king commanded.
Rein gave Dani a quick kiss on the cheek before he followed his parents into the courtroom. The bailiff served Dani with a document marked Order of Expulsion.
“If you’re still here after the session, Dani Avery, I’ve been instructed to take you into custody,” he said.
The giant disappeared into the courtroom and shut the door.
When the Cup of Immortality is stolen in Asgard, anger and suspicion is leveled at Dani Avery. Ordered from Asgard by Odin and –even worse– discovering Prince Rein has been betrothed to Leanna of the Faeries, Dani sets out to find the Cup and save Rein from an unwanted marriage.

As the clock ticks away, Dani has to make a choice between continuing the search for the Cup or trying to find her missing friends. Will Dani unwittingly sacrifice Rein’s life in her attempt to save their relationship? Or must she deliberately sacrifice their relationship in order to save his life?
