Query
In trying to freeze the comments to the long thread, I've managed to vanish them, which is an epic piece of net fail on my part. If I can't get them back, hopefully someone has screencaps? I have promised to reply to specific issues with a couple of people and will do so in due course.
A question - does anyone have the link to the woman who critiqued the Chen novels a couple of years ago? I think this is the person I had a discussion with and I linked to her post before, but I can't find it. IIRC her name is "tempere". She's a critic who had read the books, is of Chinese origins, and had some legitimate concerns about the novels and I think it might be instructive to re-post the link. If anyone does have it, I'd be grateful.
To make this clear: I have a background in academic philosophy, and over a decade in writing fiction. I'm used to criticism of my work. I don't attach much to it emotionally; it has to be considered from an objective viewpoint. Criticism that is informed, insightful and if necessary deconstructive, is crucial: it's one way in which we as writers progress.
