Absolutely those second/draft editing words count! Sometimes those are the best words in the whole story! :-)

I feel your pain. When it's negative numbers, I avoid the tally sheet. :-D Because sometimes even a negative number means you're moving forward. And ultimately that's all that matters.

This is very true :) I seem to have settled out on a couple of hours of writing followed by a couple of hours of editing, which feels like slower progress on both, but at least doesn't leave me feeling guilty I'm ignoring one or the other.
