The theory was meant to save lives, preserve the armed forces, and end things quickly and cleanly. Civilian life was left on shaky ground.

Those that could were evacuated, but when the Shamblers came closer the ships were ordered to lift off.

The bombardments would begin, vaporizing living and dead alike.

It was for that reason Robert and Richard were there. Their orders were to measure the efficiency of the bombardments.

The powers that be wanted to hear their plan was working. Unfortunately, the data hinted the bombardments offered no difference. How and why were the mystery the pair sought.
