I’m a Verified Author on Medium
I’m still pretty new to writing on Medium, so I was excited to get the e-mail announcing “You’re a verified book author on Medium!” Woohoo!
I guess I shouldn’t have been too surprised, as I did meet the requirements by having published a book with an ISBN number. But it’s a children’s book, and the writing part is really one long poem, so I wasn’t sure how picky there were about the author requirements.
It’s not like a wrote a novel! So, I was a bit worried they would say no.
But I now have a fancy little book icon, and my book linked from my page! You can find my book on Amazon at: I’m Going to My First Comic Con or right here on the blog: Buy the Book.

Applying to be a Verified Author on MediumMedium’s Verified Book Author program is designed to authenticate authors who have published books with an ISBN (International Standard Book Number). Once verified, a blue book icon appears beside your name across the platform, and your book is prominently featured on your profile, making it easy for readers to learn more about your work.
Requirements to Become VerifiedTo qualify, you must have a published book with an ISBN—this includes self-published works, as long as the ISBN is legitimate. You also need a complete Medium profile. That means your name, profile picture, and a short bio should all be filled out. Medium wants to verify real people with real books, so make sure your author name on Medium matches the one on your book.
How to Apply for Verification on MediumApplying is fairly straightforward. Head to Medium’s Verified Authors page and fill out their verification form. You’ll need to provide key information about your book, including its title, ISBN, a brief description, and the publisher’s name. There’s no fee to apply, and you don’t need to be part of Medium’s Partner Program.
After you submit your application, Medium’s team will review it. If everything checks out, they’ll notify you via email. You’ll see the verification badge appear next to your name once you’re approved.
Benefits of Being a Verified Author on MediumThere are several perks to being a verified book author. First, it boosts your credibility. Readers are more likely to take your work seriously when they see the verification badge. It signals that you’re a published professional in the writing world.
Second, it increases your visibility. Featuring your book on your Medium profile means more eyes on your work, and potentially more readers, subscribers, and sales. It also positions you for new opportunities like interviews, collaborations, or speaking engagements.
Third, the entire process is free. Unlike some platforms that charge for verification or professional features, Medium offers this as a no-cost benefit to published authors.
Tips for a Smooth Verification ProcessBefore applying, make sure your profile is complete and professional. Double-check that the author name on your Medium account matches the name under which your book was published. A clear headshot and thoughtful bio can also help create a strong impression during the review process.
