The Kindle Unlimited Fantasy Experiment 2025

This year is devoted to the Spinward Fringe Universe, so most of my attention is on science fiction. That has led some of you to a question: what happens with my fantasy novels? What are the plans going forward?

Well, for now, since they haven’t been getting much attention, I’ve made them exclusive to Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited program. The only way to be included in that program is to pull the fantasy novels from all other retailers, which I’m trying for three months because over half my readership has a Kindle Unlimited subscription.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Only my fantasy novels are being made exclusive. All of my science fiction novels are available from Barnes & Noble, Apple Books, Smashwords, Rakuten Kobo as well as Amazon and everywhere else quality ebooks are sold. I know that limiting the availability of those books would be a mistake, so I won’t be doing that.

Why try this with the fantasy novels?
Well, to be blunt, I was selling about 3-4 copies of these fantasy novels a month, which is very low for books that I’m quite proud of. Sometimes you have to change things up to get better results. Will they be exclusive forever? I don’t know, we’ll see what they do on Kindle Unlimited, but most likely not. I expect that this experiment will go on for another two or so months. If you don’t want them to be exclusive, please say so in the comments.

What are my plans for fantasy?
I love the world I created for NEM, Highshield and Brightwill. NEM Awakening and Crimson Shores make a complete story when read together. I really like the characters and world in those novels, so I’m happy I got one good story out. A third one was planned and I’m looking forward to writing it as soon as I can get back to fantasy, which will most likely be 2026.

The Sequel to Highshield has been on my mind since I worked on that book, and I think it’s an important story. I didn’t think I was ready to write it when I originally finished that book, but I am now, so I’m looking forward to getting into that. I can’t say when, but Highshield does tell a story of its own, so it’s worth a read as-is.

Brightwill is a stand alone story about characters that have, and will appear in my other fantasy novels. I can’t reveal anything else about that book or whether or not there will be a sequel. I think it’s a little raw, but worth a read because it’s a high stake adventure starring two brothers who are very different.

So, if you have Kindle Unlimited, give my fantasy work a peek if you’re between books or looking for something different. Brightwill, Hightshield and NEM are all written using very different styles, so if one doesn’t suit you, another might.

Thank you for being a reader and a subscriber to my blog. I hope you enjoy my work!
