The Power of a Hug
Have you ever had one of those days where all you really need is a hug? I definitely have. In fact, just the other day, I found myself feeling a little envious of a toddler I saw hugging their mom. It was such a simple, sweet moment—one that reminded me of the days when my own kids were little and their hugs were a regular part of my daily routine.
Now that they’re grown, those spontaneous, all-encompassing hugs are fewer and farther between. Of course, I still get them now and then, but let’s be honest—you can never have too many hugs.
Maybe it’s the uncertainty of the world lately, or maybe it’s just part of getting older, but I’ve been feeling that longing for comfort more than ever. That deep, heartwarming kind of comfort that comes from connection, from feeling safe, from knowing you’re wrapped in love.
That’s exactly what inspired this month’s elevenie. If you’re not familiar, an elevenie is a simple five-line poem that follows a specific structure. It’s a quick but powerful way to capture a feeling, a moment, or even a memory in just a few words. You can read more about elevenie’s here.
This time, I let my heart do the writing—and it led me straight to hugs, family, and the little things that make life feel warm and safe.
Do you need a hug?So, here’s to the power of a hug. To the people who make us feel at home. To the simple joys we sometimes take for granted. And if you haven’t had a good hug in a while, consider this your reminder to go find one.
What’s something that makes you feel safe and comforted? I’d love to hear in the comments!
