Top of the Heap!
What an interesting theme this week! We opened up the topic of perspective on Monday's Riddle and Lizzy told us about a great twist on the classic fairy tale, Cinderella, with her review of
The Other Slipper by Kenechi Udogu
. As a fun bonus, we are hosting the
Debut Author Giveaway Hop
from June 7th - June 13th- spotlighting middle grade authors,
R.J. Palacio
and Kenechi Odogu, two new voices among the many wonderful story-tellers out there. Today, we wanted to share our favorite "other" versions of stories that we know so well.
This weeks top of the heap: Best twists on stories
Fairday: We're off to see the wizard... in
Wicked
! My family went to see the broadway play last summer and it was incredible! The story is told from the wicked witch of the west, Elphaba's perspective- fascinating! It takes the Wizard of Oz into a whole new dimension. My parents really enjoyed this book by Gregory Maguire and became hooked on some of his other unique takes on fairy tales;
Mirror, Mirror,
Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister,
Matchless. Find out what happened in Oz before Dorothy dropped in! ~ F
Lizzy: Mixed-up fairy tales are so enchanting!
The True Story of the Three Little Pigs
as told by Jon Scieszka is my favorite twist on a fairy tale. I always heard about what a terrible guy the big, bad wolf was and I loved finding out his side of the story. It sure is different from what the pigs have said all along! The humor and pictures make this book a treat to read. This is a great book to read to talk about different perspectives.
