Heart and Hustle: Visionaries, Healers, Movers, and Shakers,
with host Paulette Rees-Denis,
and today with guests,

Audrey Kalman and Jennifer Browdy,

Writers, Authors, Publishers, Coaches
Episode #198

Hello there,
Today I have a fun interview with this creative duo,
Audrey and Jennifer!

Audrey and I start off talking casually about getting tattoos~ and I love our informal start to our conversation, before the actual recording!!! You get to see how it all gets started and how I play with these interviews… very spontaneous! and not knowing we were recording, but you get the back end of these talks for just a few minutes…I decided not to edit that out. Because I just love all the talk…
And then we get started!
Audrey and Jennifer talk about how their stories have come together, together on and off since age 6… just wow for that! And that they both began writing at the very young ages…
Co-creating, collaborating together about giving birth to creative projects, after Audrey, besides traveling the road of journalism, and corporate communication, and then becoming a birth doula, they decided to create Birth Your Truest Story, in 2017, to help other writers, first in person, and then taking the ideas and courses online.
How we always crave community and connection.
Jennifer started as a journalist and reporter, on to a PhD ( in 8 years) and becoming a professor, teaching writing, leadership, social justice, memoir, and international women’s literature at Bard College and other places.
Such great paths they have had, separately and together again. Both of them have several published books, besides lots of teaching venues.
And now is Birth Your Truest Story, with self-paced courses as well as online workshops. We discuss dreams and community and holding space for others to fulfill their ideas.
And now they are attracting spiritual and powerful writers and creating the communities they have craving!

A wonderful conversation, have a look and listen and enjoy

Watch and listen on Youtube our lively discussion.

More about Audrey:

I write literary fiction with a dark edge about what goes awry when human connection is missing from our lives. I’m the author of three novels—The Last Storyteller (2021), What Remains Unsaid (2017), and Dance of Souls (2011)—and a book of short stories, Tiny Shoes Dancing (2018), which was shortlisted for the 2019 International Rubery Book Award. My short fiction has appeared in a number of print and online publications.

I served as editor of Fault Zone, the anthology of California writers produced by the SF Peninsula Branch of the California Writers Club, and served as the branch president and VP. I was selected for a literary residency with the Shuffle Collective in 2020. In 2022, I wrapped up a nearly 20-year career as a birth doula and returned to my first calling: writing and editing. I recently co-founded the Birth Your Truest Story writers’ community with my lifelong friend, Jennifer Browdy, where I teach workshops and support a lively group of writers.

I live in northern California with my husband and two cats. Of course, I’m at work on another novel…
