Trippet Stones

Top photo: A frosty February morning shortly after dawn, catching shadows on the stones. The stones in this lovely circle are taller than average for circles in Cornwall. Only eight stones remain of what were probably twenty-eight in a circle 33m (108 feet) in diameter. They range in height between 1.2m (4 feet) and 1.6m (5 feet 2 inches), and are quite even-spaced at 3.7m (12-foot) intervals around the perimeter of the circle. The name Trippet is thought to derive from the common belief that the stones are the petrified bodies of girls who were punished for dancing on the Sabbath.
